“That’s it for today. Tell your friends. Tell your mama. Get yourself a bottle of Organo-cleanz and let me know if it works for you!”

She turns off the camera and looks at me with awe in her eyes. “What else does this stuff clean?” she asks.

“I can give you some of the testing we’ve done, but it’s a general cleaner, so you can use it nearly everywhere. The guy that invented it says that it has a different type of chemical reaction than traditional cleaners.”

She sits down on the side of the bathtub as the camera crew relaxes and tries to get out of the cramped space. “This is incredible, but I’ve never heard of it. It’s the cleaner that every woman in the world has been asking for but didn’t think was possible.”

I nod. That's the reaction I had when I looked through the information packet. “It’s not expensive either. It’s going for a little more than traditional cleaners, but that could change as the manufacturing becomes more efficient.”

She grins. “Well, leave me four bottles, and I’ll be trying it on everything.”

I help her to her feet and say, “I’ll leave you ten. Like you said, it’s going to be sold out most places even once the stores stock it.”

Angela chuckles. “Well, I’ll use them. CleanChat can get a little repetitive with the types of videos. This is new, so it should be interesting and get a lot of views. How long until I have competition?”

“Tomorrow,” I say with a grin. “I’ve got another twelve influencers to visit, and probably twenty that I’m sending products to this month.”

She nods. “Who knew that major companies would talk to me like this? When the kids grew up and moved out, I’d thought that was the end of the interesting part of my life. Now I’m about to make a new hashtag, and hundreds of thousands of people are watching my videos. All because my daughter showed me ChitChat two years ago.”

“I know what you mean. I review books, and a few days ago, I met my favorite author who told me she was nervous about talking to me. I mean, her book got turned into a movie, and she was nervous about meetingme? All because of ChitChat.”

She sighs and looks back at the bathroom. “Well, I promised Janis that I’d clean her bathtub after the video, so I’d better get started. Good luck selling Organo-cleanz. I think you’ve got gold on your hands right now.”

“Me too. Though, I’m just here to spread the word. And hopefully get it into stores so I can buy it too!”

Angela grins. “It was nice meeting you, Madison. I’m sure you’ve got a busy day of traveling.”

“I do.” Thinking about having to ride in that van all the way to DC sounds terrible. “It was great meeting you too!”

She turns around and walks back to the bathroom. The camera crew is already waiting outside, very ready to get out of New Jersey and on the road. Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that not everyone dreads the van rides.

But the camera crew doesn’t have to think about the fact that their boyfriend is going to a movie premiere with one of the best-known actresses in the world. One that’s gorgeous and funny. And rich. And famous. God, I need to stop thinking about it. I just need to read a book and try to ignore everything. I have a job to do, and so does Em.

Even if his job rips at my heart every time he does it.

Chapter 44

Emery

Red carpet events are the worst. At least Victoria Durant understands the purpose of us showing up together. Neither of us has any illusion of this going beyond combining our fame and giving the rumor mill something to talk about.

I just wish people didn’t think she was so pretty. I know it bothers Madison when I go to events with women that she claims are beautiful. If only she knew that the only woman I fantasize about is her.

Victoria wraps her arm around my waist and leans in as a photographer snaps a picture. Flashes go off all around us, and I do my best not to push her away. Once upon a time, I’d have leaned into the whole thing and flirted with her. Now, it’s only through years of desensitization that I can stand to be this close to her.

Her silver gown sparkles in the camera flashes, the tiny crystals shining like stars across her body. Little peekaboo cutouts across her stomach and up her side show skin, but it’s almost modest compared to some of the other women here. Thankfully, Victoria’s never been very racy about her clothing choices.

Ezra Andrews, a popular reporter, stops us to talk about Victoria’s latest movie. They never want to talk about business with me. It’s not juicy enough.

“You haven’t been seen around town very often, Emery. Is there perhaps a special lady that you’ve been keeping hidden from the world?”

I smile at him, even though I want to rip his face off. I was expecting the question, though. “There are many special ladies in the world, Ezra, and I’ve spent time with many of them. Which one would you be talking about?”

He laughs, the expected thing to do. “Would you even tell us if you were spending time with one woman in particular? You know the world wants to know.”

“My experience tells me you’ll probably let me know if I’m spending extra time with someone. You’re very good at your job.”

Ezra grins and turns to Victoria again to talk about her dress, and I tune them out. Madison is in a hotel room in DC without me. She’s probably watching me on the red carpet with a glass of wine.
