“I’m so sorry, sweet pea.”
But Posie shrieked, “Fairy cookies!” And then, Kinny forgot about her boo-boo and took off, leaving Grace with the feeling she’d just been given the greatest gift in the world.
Her parents watched her with warm smiles. “I take that back,” her mom said.
“Take what back?”
“We already have our first grandchild.”
Grace got up and threw herself into her mom’s arms. Her dad came over, and the three of them hugged, and she just felt so…safe in their love.
When they pulled apart, all of them had watery eyes. Jamie joined them, handing her a water bottle. “Everything good?”
“I hear you’ve been talking to my parents.”
“I think we’ll go take a look at those pastries.” Her dad chuckled and steered his wife toward the display case.
“I sent them pictures so they could see the progress of all this. But yes, we’ve been emailing.”
“And you flew my entire family out here.”
“The team was coming back from an away game in New York. It was no big deal—” He saw her arched brow and stopped talking. “Yes, I flew them out here. I knew this day wouldn’t be complete without them.”
“I have never felt more seen, more understood, and more loved in my entire life. Never stop loving me, Jaime Dupree.”
“Not possible.” He gave her a lingering kiss. “You’re the love of my life.”
