Her blood went as fizzy as the champagne she’d drunk.

Gorgeous, magnetic, confident… Every head turned as he strode by.

He was the most dangerous man she’d ever seen.

And not because he was the most handsome or the tallest or the wealthiest in any room. It was his charisma. His power. Everyone wanted him.

But he was completely and totally unavailable. He held himself back from everyone but his family.

Finally, he was in front of her, cupping her elbows. His energy unmistakably saidI missed you. In another world, he’d hug her so hard he’d lift her off her feet. She knew it. She wasn’t misreading this.

“Hey.” That gruff, masculine voice plucked a nerve deep inside, making her bones vibrate.

“Hey.” God, she wasshaking.

“Look at you. Not a speck of flour on your cheek.”

She burst out laughing. “No. Your sister made sure of that. And why are you acting like this is the first time you’re seeing me? You did pick me up and drive me over here.”

“It was dark.”

And you avoided looking at me.

“Is that her dress?” he asked.

“Yes. Although your mom had to make some alterations.”

His attention fixed on her cleavage. “I’ll bet.”

She swatted him. “Eyes up here, player.”

But he didn’t smile. And his gaze lingered long enough to make her breasts tingle and her nipples harden. It took a slow journey up her neck, over her mouth, and then to her eyes. “I’m not a player. I’m very honest about what I can and can’t give.”

Her joints were locked, her throat dry. The man unnerved her. But she didn’t like what he was implying. “I didn’t ask for anything.”

“You didn’t have to.” He lifted a wavy lock of her hair and twined it around a finger. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you how beautiful you look when I picked you up.”

“Yeah, well, you were in one of your moods.”

He seemed totally thrown. “I don’t have moods.”

“Are you kidding me? You’re the moodiest man I’ve ever met.”

He stared deeply into her eyes, the muscle in his jaw ticking. Around her, people laughed, sampled hors d’oeuvres, and jotted down their bids, and all the while, Jaime was locked on to her. A whole story unfolded across his features, but unfortunately, she couldn’t read a single word.

But his energy…well, anyone could read that. It was sexual, carnal. If they hadn’t been in a ballroom, she was certain he’d haul her up against him and kiss the living hell out of her. She could almost feel his hands sliding down her back, grabbing her ass, and lifting her, carrying her across the room, and slamming her against the wall.

Yes, please.

Ooh, this man would be a wild ride. And maybe that was the appeal right there. He was all leashed energy, and some lucky woman was going to snip the bindings and uncage him. And when he let himself go, he’d be thrilling. God, she wanted that.

Sex with Ian had never been exciting. It had been familiar. It had been…well, quick. Only now did she understand how unsatisfied she’d been. This moment brought it all into sharp relief. She needed passion. Craved it. She needed a man who couldn’t keep his hands off her, who wasn’t gentle.

No, she wanted him to be out of his mind for her.

But just like that, his face went blank. “Only around you.”

“Me?What have I done? I haven’t asked you for a damn thing. You askedmewhere I wanted to go, you offered me a cabin. I’m sorry I woke up the crew, but you failed to explain they were so close.” She let out a huff of breath. “Do you think I came here to hook up with you or something? I wish you’d tell me what you’re thinking because it’s driving me crazy.”
