“I grabbed you a beer.” Charlotte points to the beer sitting on the end table.
“Thank you.” I bend over and drop a kiss on top of her head before making myself a plate. I don’t sit on the opposite end of the couch where my beer is waiting. I’ve been away from her enough this week. So I take the middle couch cushion, placing myself right next to her.
“This is nice to see,” Audrey comments. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure either of you would ever get here.”
“What do you mean?” I ask her.
She shrugs. “You were both so closed off. I guess it just goes to show the right person makes a world of difference.”
“Is it okay that I’m here?” I ask. I know things are weird with what happened between her and Lincoln.
“More than okay, Spencer. This is Charlotte’s house, and even if it were mine, I’d feel the same way. Linc’s decision has nothing to do with you. Like I told my sister, he made the right choice. I don’t hate him. It’s going to take me some time, but we’ll get to a place where we can be in the same room together and not feel guilt and loss.” She takes a long pull of her own beer.
“Thanks again for doing my laundry today,” Charlotte tells her sister.
“That’s what we do.” Audrey shrugs. “I was here anyway, and I know you didn’t get to do it last weekend.”
“That’s on me.” I lean over and press a kiss on her shoulder. “Sorry, babe.”
“Aw,” Audrey coos.
We all laugh. I grab a couple more slices of pizza and listen as the sisters talk about a book they’re reading. Once I’m finished, I lean my head on Charlotte’s shoulder, and her scent surrounds me. Fuck, how am I already this addicted to this woman?
“I think we’re losing him.” Audrey chuckles.
“It’s your sister’s fault. She let me sleep next to her two nights in a row and then took herself away from me. I’ve slept like shit this week.”
“You’re a good man, Spencer Pennington,” Audrey comments. “I’m going to clean up. You two head to bed before we have to try and carry him to your room.”
“I can help,” Charlotte tells her sister.
“It’s some paper plates, a couple of empty beer bottles, and a pizza box that will get shoved in the fridge. I’ve got this. You crazy kids behave.” She points her fingers at us.
Charlotte stands from the couch and holds her hand out for me. I place mine in hers, and she yanks to help pull me from the couch. We say goodnight to Audrey before she leads me down the hall to her room. We head to the bathroom and brush our teeth before flipping off the bathroom light and moving toward the bed.
“Naked,” I tell Charlotte as I push my shorts and boxer briefs over my thighs. I let them fall at my feet and step out of them before adding my shirt to the pile. “I need to feel your skin against mine.”
“What if I get cold? You know the air conditioning is chilly at night.”
“Naked, in my arms. I promise you, baby, you won’t get cold.” I climb under the covers and wait for her. I watch her as she slowly strips out of her shorts and tank top before taking her spot next to me. Reaching over, she turns off the lamp, and the room is bathed in darkness.
“Come here, Charlie girl.” She doesn’t hesitate to slide across the mattress and rest her hand and her cheek on my chest. I wrap my arm around her and hold her close. “This,” I whisper. “You,” I amend, “are what I needed.”
Her hand begins to roam over my chest. “I’m afraid to get too used to this,” she says, her voice soft.
“Why?”
“I’ve never really had a serious relationship, Spencer. I’ve dated here and there, but nothing that had me craving more. I’ve never missed anyone the way that I miss you.”
“That makes two of us.”
We’re quiet as she continues to explore. Her hand slides lower and lower until she’s gripping my hard cock in her small hand. “Charlie—” Her name from my lips is a warning. Not because I’m exhausted but because I want her with a ferocity that I don’t understand.
“Is this okay? Can I?”
I’m not an idiot. I will never tell this beauty that she can’t touch me. “As long as it’s you.” I lift my head to press a kiss to hers.
“Just me.”
