I nodded and shot up from the floor, wiping my mouth with my hand. Tucking my dick into my shorts, I headed toward the door.

“Wait,” Grace called out. “I’m going with you.”

I pushed out my hand to stop her. “No, stay here.”

Our fight with The Lucaya Group was far from over. We might have gotten Alex back from the auction, but Drake and The Knights were still dodging constant threats. So I couldn’t take any chances with her life.

Grace slipped into the tiny booty shorts, a tank top, and no bra. “I’m coming with you.”

I cupped her face in my hands. “Grace, please.”

Another loud bang.

A crash.

I didn’t have time to tell her no again because I was running down the hallway with Grace at my side. Halting in front of the door to the natatorium, I could smell my mother’s sweet perfume.

I opened the door, and the familiar scent quickly transformed into something vile.

Chlorine.

Metal.

What the fuck?

I could practically taste both scents on my tongue as I entered the room.

Blood.

Grace screamed.

So much blood was on the floor, splashed across the white tiles, and ran into the pool. My eyes followed the trail of blood straight to… my mom.

She was floating on the pool’s surface, dressed in a one-piece black bathing suit with her arms at her sides. We had the same white-blonde hair, now fanned out around her once pretty face, drained of color. She looked so still but not peaceful. A look of complete horror froze on her face.

And there was blood.

Everywhere.

I dropped to my knees, not giving a single fuck about the pain radiating up my spine.

I felt nothing.

And everything.

Fucking numb.

Dead inside.

“Mom…”

Grace screamed.

I hopped into the pool, wading through the blood to get to her. Holding my mother’s dead body in my arms, I turned my head to the side and spilled my guts into the water. This wasn’t the first time I saw a dead body. It wasn’t even the first time I smelled this much blood. Not even the first time I had seen this much blood.

But this was my mom.

Not one of my enemies.
