‘Is that a promise?’

‘Absolutely,’ I say.

‘Come here, Wife. Just the thought of you in that costume drives me crazy.’ He pulls me into his arms and his hard body presses against me and I feel him stir. I wrap my legs around him as he lifts me up in the water and our lips meet. ‘Can we get ready for our date, now?’ he says, and I know exactly what kind of getting ready he has in mind.

Daisy and Vivian are settled in the snug, ready for pizza, and we wish them goodnight. Just as we’re about to leave, Daisy calls, ‘This is the best summer holidayever. Thank you, Daddy. Thank you, Nathalie.’ She runs over to hug us both.

Our driver arrives and we slip into the backseat of the car and Seb reaches for my hand and turns it over and plants a kiss on my palm.

‘Thank you for being so incredible with Daisy and my mother. I’ve not seen either of them so relaxed in years, and it’s all down to you.’

My eyes well up at the raw emotion in his voice, and I think for the thousandth time, I must be the luckiest woman in the world.

I lean over to kiss him and run my hand through his shiny, damp hair. ‘Thank you for beingthemost incredible husband and for making me the happiest woman alive.’

We hold hands all the way into the old town until the car pulls up outside the restaurant and we get out. The scent of his aftershave teases my nose and I’m as buzzing to be out with him for the evening as I was on our first date.

He’s all mine and I couldn’t be more grateful.

The thing about falling in love with someone who’s forbidden to you is that if the universe realigns and by some miracle, you’re able to be together, you never take it for granted. It’s always special.

My hand grazes my stomach, and excitement fizzes through me.

I received a confirmation email when Seb was in the pool with Daisy, and our date night on the beautiful Riviera is the perfect time to tell him the news.

I put my hand over my wine glass and shake my head at the server, smiling.

Seb tilts his head to one side. ‘No wine on date night? That’s unusual,’ he teases. He knows how much I appreciate fine wine.

My heart’s thumping, and the adrenalin rushes through me as I raise my eyes to his. ‘There’s a reason I shouldn’t drink wine.’

He looks at me quizzically.

I study his handsome face and drop him another clue. ‘It will continue for quite a few months of date nights.’

A look of pure joy flashes into his blue-grey eyes and he leaps up and dashes around the table, and pulls me gently to my feet. He wraps his arms around me and whispers in my ear, ‘Are you saying what I think you’re saying?’

Tilting backwards slightly, I nod. ‘Yes. We’re expecting.’

Seb lets out an earth-shattering whoop and picks me up and swings me around and then kisses me as people at the nearby tables stop eating and stare.

His enthusiasm is contagious and everyone’s looking at us curiously now, and I feel the need to explain. I look around, smile, and tell them we just found out we’re having a baby.

It’s a small bistro and the diners from the surrounding tables stand up and raise their glasses to us in a noisy toast, like a scene from a romantic comedy. ‘Bravo!’

We thank everyone and sit down. Seb can’t stop smiling, and he clasps my hands and says, ‘I love you madly.’

‘And I love you more,’ I reply.

The three of us are such a happy family and I can’t wait to tell Daisy she’s going to have a little sister or brother.
