“Maybe weshouldtry to watch Lord of the Rings again,” I joke.

“Oh, no. This time, we are watching something more interesting to keep you awake.”

I give a small pout, but he doesn’t notice. After our sex last night with Tanner’s piercing, I can’t seem to get enough. It was incredible. It touched places I didn’t even know I had.

“You underestimate my ability to fall asleep anytime, anywhere,” I tell him. “So, what did you pick?”

“Game of Thrones. Ever heard of it?”

I roll my eyes. “Just because I don’t watch a lot doesn’t mean I live under a rock.”

“Any idea what it’s about?”

I shake my head. “Not a clue.”

“Can I ask you something?” Tanner questions after a long pause.

“Sure.”

“What did you and Judd do? I know you said you didn’t watch a lot of movies and stuff, but from what you say, it doesn’t seem like you guys did much together.”

“That was random,” I tell him. “Truthfully, we didn’t spend a lot of time together at all at the end. Typically, we didn’t even sleep in the same bed. One of us would crash on the couch. When we first got together, we loved going to the movies, but that gets a lot more expensive when you have three kids to take with you. Between work, driving the kids around, and keeping the house in order, I didn’t have time for a lot of other stuff. During hunting season, Judd would go hunting almost every weekend, and I was just happy to have him out of the house.”

He grabs my hand. “Erin, I’m really sorry you had to go through all that.”

“It’s fine,” I reply, shaking it off.

With his eyes fixed on mine, he says, “No, it’s not. You should have never been in a situation where someone made you feel like that.” He slides off the couch and gets on his knees in front of me. “You should be treated like a queen.”

I run my finger across his cheek. “You’re doing a pretty good job of it so far.”

“I’m going to make you a promise.”

“You don’t have to promise me anything, baby.”

He wraps his arms around my waist. “I want to. I promise that you will never have to carry the brunt of anything in this relationship. It’s a partnership. Fifty-fifty. That includes housework, cooking, and everything else. And no matter what, we will make time for us. I don’t care what I have to do, but we will make it happen.”

I love how sweet he is. I know that things aren’t always that easy when you add kids into the mix, but it’s nice that he’s willing to try. Judd never was.

Every moment I spend with Tanner convinces me a little more that this whole thing could work. He convinces me that good men are out there. I’ve always known my father was a good man, but with the way Judd treated me, I wondered if my dad was a zebra amongst horses.

He joins me back on the couch and turns on Game of Thrones. We watch the entire first episode in silence, and when it’s over, Tanner is anxious to hear what I think.

“It was good,” I say. “But why are there like a million characters? Seems like it’s going to be hard to keep them all straight.”

He smiles. “That’s what you have me for.”

I pinch his cheeks. “Okay, my little nerd.”

“This nerd is going to eat your pussy until you can’t take anymore later.”

“Once again, there you go, threatening me with a good time.”

He lets out a deep laugh. “Do you want to watch the next episode?”

He sounds so excited that I just can’t tell him no. “Sure. Let me run upstairs real quick and get the boys’ laundry to throw in the washer.”

“Alright, and I’ll make us some popcorn.”
