“Bet you loved it anyway.”

“Well, yeah. I mean, Harrison Ford in his prime.”

“And Sean Young. Damn. She was hot.”

The icon bounced, announcing they had an enhanced image to download.

She clicked on the downward pointing arrow. The doorbell rang as the image loaded. He waited for the photo to sharpen.

He shouldn’t be surprised. It was what he’d expected, but still his heart squeezed as she sucked in a breath.

Jamal had tried to blow her up this morning.

Chapter Fifty-Two

Diana stared at the image while Chris went to get their food delivery. She could hear a third voice and realized both dinner and groceries had arrived.

She waited for the sound of the door closing and the beep of the alarm being reset, then emerged from the room. “I’ll put the groceries away while you lay out dinner?”

He nodded.

It was easy enough to unload groceries when the fridge was empty to start with. Chris had ordered the basics: bread, cheese, milk, chicken. Bags of salad.

More of her favorite potato chips.

Ice cream.

What she would have given for chocolate ice cream when she was in the desert with Jamal and Bassam.

She felt a slight tremor as she put the frozen pint in the freezer.

Jamal had tried to kill her. It should be a relief to know for certain, but she didn’t know if she’d be able to eat. “We need to tell Freya.”

“She’ll know as soon as she sees the enhanced version Raptor sends.”

“How?”

“She has a picture of Jamal.”

“What? How?”

He shook his head. “Shit. I can’t believe neither of us told you about that, but we…sorta got sidetracked, and when we finally talked to Freya, more important stuff was happening.”

“Tell me.” She heard the urgency in her voice. But dammit, why had Chris kept this from her?

“It’s the reason I was in Morgan’s office when you texted about your meeting with Gardner. Freya had a photo array and wanted to know if I could identify Jamal. She had a photo of Bassam too.”

Bassam.

She would never be able to hear that name without flinching. Without seeing his open throat and the bullet shattering his face.

“Freya found out who they are?” Who he was.

“Yes. I don’t remember their last name. But they were from Beirut. Taken in an attack on a school a few years ago. They had a sister too.”

She closed her eyes. That poor girl.

Warm arms surrounded her. She leaned into his embrace.
