“Don’t call it that—”

“He sleeps over, you get all mushy when he sexts—sorry, just regular texts—you, and you’re exclusive. That about sum it up?”

I nod as we round the corner to our door. “Correct.”

“I’m pretty sure that’s called dating.”

“It’s not—Nora!”

My lungs go icy as I grab her hand back, just as it was extending to our door holding her keys.

…Because our door is already open, and ajar.

Nora’s face goes white as she moves behind me.

Someone was in there.

My heart clenches.

Someonemight still be in there.

“Elsa?” Nora whispers in a small, scared voice as she clutches my shirt. “I think you should call your not-boyfriend.”

“All good.”

Hades is smiling as he steps back into the hallway, but there’s a shadow of darkness flickering in his eyes when he glances at me.

“Probably just didn’t click shut behind you when you left.”

Nora exhales loudly. “Well, that was terrifying.”

He chuckles. “I’ll bet. It’s all good if you want to go in.”

When she’s inside, he turns to me, his smile fading.

“The place is completely clean. But someone’s definitely been through your things.AndNora’s.”

My stomach drops, my face turning white.

“What?!”

“They were good, but not that good.” His jaw clenches. “I didn’t want to scare her, but neither of you is staying here tonight. No fucking way.”

I nod, my throat bobbing heavily. “Okay, I’ll look at hotels—”

“I’ve got room.”

I blink in surprise as I turn to him. “What?”

“I’ve got room at my place. Pack bags for the both of you. Don’t freak Nora out. Tell her that you’ve found out that the door being left ajar was actually building maintenance, and they say they need to do some important upgrades to your electrical system tonight, maybe the next night too.”

I stare at him. “Hades, we’re not staying at your—”

“Yeah,” he growls, making me gasp as his mouth lowers to my ear. “You are.”
