Or it might mean something.

“Thanks, Santi. I’ll even buy you that tequila you like.”

Santi laughed. “I could choke down a decent whiskey. Take care of your girl, Excalibur.”

“I plan to.”

She was tired.

Addie’s eyes were gritty, her back ached, and even her fingers were exhausted.

Hex had been right. Wading through CCTV footage was boring.

She rubbed the back of her neck. She wanted to help. She needed to be a part of finding out who was trying to destroy her life.

And hurt Bram.

Her stomach squeezed tight. She’d searched through footage from the gallery.

There had been nothing out of the ordinary until the internal cameras went dark for thirty minutes, when presumably her stalker had planted the bomb.

For Bram.

She gripped the arms of her chair.

He’s fine. He’s alive, Addie.

She knew he was in Killian’s office, but suddenly, she really wanted to see him. She took a deep breath.

“Okay?” Hex appeared, sitting on the desk beside Addie’s computer screen.

“I haven’t found anything helpful.”

“I told you it can be mind-numbing.” Hex lifted a huge mug of coffee and sipped. “It takes time. And patience.” She looked at the screen. “And you’re right, you’re pretty good with computers.”

Addie felt a small flush of pride. “Thanks. It was the only thing I was good at when I was at school, apart from dancing.”

“You’ve always wanted to be a dancer?” Hex asked.

“I…” Addie frowned. “Actually, I always just wanted to escape and make something of my life. We didn’t have much money, my parents were always working, and I have five brothers and sisters.”

Hex’s eyes popped wide. “Five? Wow. I’m an only child, so that’s hard to imagine. Are you close?”

Addie shook her head. “A couple of my brothers are into drugs.” She sighed. “My sister is already married and doesn’t talk to the family much. Everyone just went their separate ways.” She’d tried to stay in touch with her siblings, but none of them were interested. “I thought dancing was my ticket to stardom.” She gave Hex a sad smile. “It didn’t quite work out the way I planned.”

“Bram told me that you’re an amazing dancer.”

Addie flushed. “He said he came to some of my shows.” She fiddled with her hair. She felt almost guilty saying this. “After the last few years, the grind of auditions, training and practice, never making enough money to pay the bills…” She shrugged. “Dancing stopped being fun a long time ago.”

Hex touched her hand. “I’m sorry.”

“After I was abducted with Saskia, I guess I started to reevaluate things. Now I’m not sure what I want.”

“Or maybe now you know dancing isn’t your dream, you need to work out what is,” Hex said.

Addie bit her lip. “Now, this baby needs to be my focus.”
