After throwing a few more comments back and forth, I decide I’ve had enough and head for the door. This isn’t my drama. It’s theirs.

Iwake up to Dax’s head between my legs and I shuffle onto my back, letting him feast on me to his heart's content. Why can’t I wake up like this every morning?

Dax continues his assault on my pussy with his tongue, adding two fingers into me at the same pace until my legs are shaking and I’m delirious from being half asleep but also happily sedated by my orgasm.

He slowly creeps up my body and appears from under the covers, giving me a kiss and letting me taste myself.

“Good morning,” I say through the kiss, feeling him smile through it. “What was that for?”

“Do I have to give a reason for why I want to lick my girl's pussy every time?”

I blush and he kisses my nose.

“Besides, I figured you had some pent-up energy you needed to get out that required more than a gym session.”

He laughs and I push him off me, but he holds on, dragging me with him until I’m lying on top.

“What got into you yesterday?”

I roll my eyes and lay my head flat on his chest.

“I don’t know. I was mad at her for being here in general and then King turned all dickish and I got my back up.”

“That’s one way of putting it.”

I swat his chest and my body shakes with his laughter.

“Look, Birdie, I know you don’t like her, but I don’t think she’s going anywhere. Maybe you could just give her a chance.”

I look up at him and scowl.

“Why do you always have to be so reasonable?”

“Because if I wasn’t, who would be?”

She’s standingon the patio, staring out into the forest that lines the mansion, travelling further into the other Districts. Dax’s and my lake is somewhere out there, hidden peacefully.

“Theodora,” I call out gently, coming to stand next to her.

She says a quiet hello and then turns her head away from me. I guess I deserve that.

“Look, Theodora,” I start, but she interrupts me.

“It’s Theo.”

“Right,” I say and shuffle on my feet a little. Time to put on my big girl pants and give the girl a break. “Look, I don’t know you. Dax and King both have very different opinions about you.”

I laugh at her when she cocks an eyebrow because of course they do. King has always been a hothead and will moan and complain about anything, including her. But Dax always sees the best in everyone.

“Well, anyway, regardless of both of them, I make my own opinions on people. I don’t know how I feel about you yet.” She looks at me innocently and I know I’m blunt, but I’m also just being honest. “You’ve caused problems in my home and I’m protective of my boys.”

I know it’s like I’m trying to stake my claim, but in a way, I am. This mansion has been my home for almost ten years, albeit not always a welcoming and friendly home, but home nonetheless. I’m protective of Dax and King, just like they are of me. That isn’t going to change.

“Your home?” she questions, and I can see the cogs turning in her head.

“Yeah. My home. But”—I smile, wanting to let her know I’m not all bad—“what I will say is thank you for taking down that motherfucking son of a bitch.”
