“That’s it, Birdie, let it go.”

With a final flick of my clit, I ride out the wave of ecstasy Dax always brings me and moan out into the open air. If anyone was around, they’d definitely hear my cries echoing around the trees.

Dax follows, jerking into me, and I feel him release inside me, and even though my legs are absolutely killing me, I keep going until I know I’ve squeezed out every last drop.

I collapse onto him, and for a few moments, we just rest there, whilst he rubs small circles on my back.

I can feel his heart beating faster through his chest and then with a cracked voice, he calls my name.

“Rori?” It’s like a question and I lift my head to look at him, wondering what’s wrong.

He fidgets around in his pocket before bringing up a beautiful ring held between his thumb and finger. It’s a stunning white gold steel grey diamond, encased with smaller diamonds around the band.

I sit up a little to look between the ring in his fingers and his face and when he smiles at me, it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, even more than the ring.

“I know I’m nine years too late,” he starts and I smile to match his. “But will you do me the absolute honour of marrying me?”

I grab his face with both hands and kiss him hard, letting him slide the ring on as I do.

“About fucking time!”

After getting back from the lake and having some more glorious sex with Dax in the shower, I decide to head to Theo’s room. I didn’t give her the best welcome here and I feel a little bad over the way I’ve treated her.

Plus, it’ll be nice to have some girl talk, especially after Dax’s proposal and what we witnessed Theo and King both doing in the office.

I gently knock on the door and when I hear her call out a hello, I pop my head around the frame.

“Uhh, hi,” I say awkwardly now that I’m here.

“Hey!” She smiles back and I take that as my cue to walk in. I close the door behind me and sit next to her on the bed, and I can see her cheeks flaming again and the urge to laugh is strong.

“Look, Rori,” she starts, but I can’t hold my giggle any longer.

“I am not even sorry that we walked in on you. Damn, Theo, that screeeam!” I accentuate and throw my head back with more laughter.

Theo starts to laugh with me and eventually, I hear a ‘fuck off, Rori’ come from her lips as we both start to calm down.

It’s only then that I realise I’ve never had a girl friend. I had younger sisters back at Maxwell’s, but we weren’t friends—they were cunts, to be honest—and then I met Sophie and some of the girls from the club, but I don’t really go there anymore. And then there’s Maria, sweet Maria, who I betrayed for the first few months of knowing her, but then she’s always been like a mother figure to me, not a bestie.

Laughing with Theo feels normal, the kind of friendships you read about or see in films. I’ve only ever had Dax and King as best friends, and though I wouldn’t change it for the world, I like the prospect of having Theo too.

I tuck my legs under the duvet, getting myself comfortable.

“I’ve got to hand it to you. I think you’ll give me and Dax a run for our money.”

I don’t miss the eye roll.

“You and Dax are in love. That in itself is already giving us a run for our money!”

I scoff because if she can’t see that King is very much head over heels for her, then she’s blind. Although I suppose I’ve known King for years now, and he probably isn’t the boy she once knew.

“If you can’t see King’s in love with you, you’ve got no hope,” I say, just to extend on my point.

“King’s not in love with me, Rori. I’m just here at the moment.”

I couldn’t have rolled my eyes to the back of my head harder and she didn’t miss it.

“Oh, don’t give me any of that attention-seeking crap, Theo. You’re better than that.”
