A flicker of confusion shadows Hadeon’s darkened expression before he speaks again. “Fuck your family, you sonofabitch. You killed our father. We lost everything. You’re not getting out of here alive.”

“But Hades, he didn’t kill Tato.” I blurt out the words, my shoulders shuddering uncontrollably as if I’ve just been thrust into an ice bath. “He was with me that night. He’s Daniela’s father.”

Chapter9

Danil

“No,” Hadeon bellows. “He fucking killed Tato that night. He was there at the office.”

I grit my teeth.

How the fuck does he know I was there?

“Your sister’s telling the truth.” Fury shoots through me like lightning, crackling fiercely like a livewire was just shoved up my ass. At least, she’s telling him the truth as far as she knows it.

“I went to the Fairmont Hotel after my meeting with your father. Met Larysa at the bar. Fucked her brains out for the next eight hours before getting on a plane back here.”

I leave out the bit she slept through — the part where I left to find Olek — a decision that’s been biting me in the ass ever since I made it.

“Oh, for Christ’s sake.” Larysa groans with a roll of her eyes. “Was all that exposition really necessary?”

Funny how she can get so exasperated at me for sharing a little too much information while I have a gun to her head.

Hadeon’s blue eyes gleam with malice. He steps toward me as we reach the bottom of the steps, waving the barrel of his gun in my face. “Seems like I have more than one reason to kill you now.”

“You must be dreaming or plain fucking delusional, because death isn’t in the cards formetonight.” I glare at him, daring him to challenge me. “And if you pull that trigger, just know that she will be dead before your bullet even hits the air.”

A deep red flush creeps into Hadeon’s face. “There are more of us than of you. How the hell do you think you’re gonna get away with leaving this house alive?”

“I didn’t come here to steal the prize and escape with it.” My voice tightens, tinged with fury. “I came here for retribution. And I’ll get it.”

“I’ll blow a hole through your damn skull if you hurt one hair on her head.” Hadeon’s hand shakes the slightest bit because he knows as well as I do that he can’t carry out a single threat. He knows who I am and what I do. And more than that, he knows he’s fucked and that I have the upper hand since I’ve got his sister.

“I have nothing to lose. That makes me a pretty fucking dangerous opponent.” I press the barrel of the gun harder against Larysa’s head. She screams, and Hadeon bares his teeth like an animal ready to pounce on his prey.

Except this dumb fuck doesn’t realize he’s the prey now.

“Let her go,” he yells.

“Mama!” The baby screams again from somewhere in the house.

Tears slip down the sides of Larysa’s face. Careful not to move too suddenly, she turns her head toward me. “Please let me get her. You can’t possibly be that much of a callous bastard that you’d let your daughter suffer like that.”

“How the hell am I supposed to know she’s really mine? How do I know you weren’t with anyone else?”

“I’m not some cheap whore.” A look of shock eclipses her pained expression. “Maybe the girls you mess around with can’t keep their legs closed, but I just happened to have had a weak moment that night, okay? It’s not the kind of thing I do on the regular, asshole.”

Hadeon’s forehead pinches. “Just because you slept with my sister doesn’t mean you didn’t ice my dad. I have evidence, prick. I know it was you who killed him.”

“I’d like to see the evidence,” I seethe. “And I want to know who gave it to you since I was at the hotel all night. With your sister.Fucking her.”

It gives me great pleasure to see his face turn more and more purple every time I bring up what I did to Larysa. I think if I gave him a detailed play-by-play, he’d blow chunks right now if he opened his mouth.

But one thing makes me bite my tongue.

He said evidence.

Blood curdles in my veins. Dima gave me the order to go back to Olek’s office. He told me I needed to send Olek’s family a message after he rejected our proposal. He swore I could slip in and out undetected. And I believed that lying, conniving sonofabitch, too.
