He closes his fingers over mine, lips parting to say something, but I don’t know what it is.

But it’s the “what” that makes my insides cringe and clench.

A sharp ring interrupts him before he can say a word. He rolls toward the edge of the bed and grabs his cell phone from the floor where it must have fallen out of his pocket.

He grabs it and answers. “Yeah?” After a few second pause, he speaks again. “Okay, come up.”

I spring up from the mattress and jump off the bed. I bend to grab my dress and pull it on. Dragging my fingers through my sex-tangled hair, I quickly zip the back of the dress. “Who’s coming up?”

“Luka.” Danil pulls on his pants and runs a hand through his hair. His tousled waves, flushed face, and ripped muscles tensing and tightening with every move he makes have my knees quaking and wobbling like a baby taking her first steps.

“Okay, I’ll just, um—”

He pulls me close and crushes his mouth to mine. “You don’t need to do anything. Relax. We just have a couple of things to talk about. Security for your performance tomorrow night.”

I nod and he gives me a smack on the ass. “You shouldn’t have gotten dressed. I’ll get rid of him fast.”

With a giggle, I give him a playful shove out the door. “Okay, then. I’ll get back into bed.”

He walks out of the room. I press a hand to my chest, my heart damn-near ready to explode out of my rib cage from that mind-bending, body-shattering fuckfest.

Water. I need water.

I creep toward the hallway. The sliding glass door that leads to the balcony creaks open, and the low voices drift farther away. I walk into the kitchen, pull open the refrigerator door, and grab a bottle of Pellegrino. Twisting off the top, I turn slightly to look out the window. Luka’s forehead is pinched, his arms folded over his chest. Danil’s jaw tenses, his hands curled into tight fists.

I take a long gulp of the fizzy mineral water, my curiosity piqued. He was calm and relaxed only a couple of minutes ago. What could have changed?

Blood ices in my veins.

Unless he just got the answers he’d been looking for.

Anger colors his expression. Panic grabs hold of my heart.

Please, no…don’t let them be talking about my brothers…

I gingerly step toward the balcony, but neither notices me eavesdropping on their terse conversation. They’re too focused on their apparent rage than anyone witnessing their exchange.

“What happened that night in Kiev, Danil? What the hell have you been hiding?”

“Someone had security clips of me at Olek’s office the night he was murdered.”

“Fuck,” Luka mutters. “Why the hell were you there?”

“Dima ordered me to send Olek a message after the meeting we had. So I left Larysa in my hotel room and went back to find him.” Danil pauses, his jaw clenched. “To kill him.”

Chapter31

Larysa

My heart stutters to a stop, a flood of red staining my vision…and the man who just shattered my heart.

The open bottle of Pellegrino slips out of my hand and crashes to the floor, soaking my feet. All conversation stops when Danil and Luka turn their heads to look at me. I creep toward the open sliding glass door, muscles in my calves tensing with each step. Each stilted breath I take slices at my lungs like tiny shards of glass.

“You left me to kill my father?”

I fling my fist at his shoulder, pounding the hard wall of muscle with my knuckles. Wincing, I clench my teeth. He doesn’t even stumble. And my God, I want to hurt him. Badly.

“After all the hell you put me through, all the distrust and suspicion, you lied to me? You let me lie to my brothers about what happened that night. I was your alibi, but it was all bullshit,” I scream, shoving him as hard as I can.
