“Who says I’m not?” He gives me an inquisitive look. “We haven’t exactly had a lot of time since last night.”

I roll my eyes petulantly even though he’s right. We’ve only had a small window where we’ve truly been alone and I know that we need more time to explore whatever this is.We need all night.

“Will you stay in the main house tonight?” I ask him.

“Are you planning for any house guests?” I shake my head and give him a devilish grin.

“No. Just me.”

He licks his lips as he traces his eyes down my body. “I think that can be arranged.”

“Please,” I push, wanting something to look forward to as I prepare for a night of fake pleasantries and making nice with Paxton.

His blue eyes trail back up my legs and settle on the apex of my thighs that’s barely covered by my dress and licks his lips. “So, about that kiss…” he says as his eyes slowly move up to mine.

“You can’t be serious. NOW? You said there wasn’t enough time when we were at the house, but now, minutes before we arrive is the time?”

“I didn’t meanthoselips.” My mouth drops open and a whimper leaves my lips at the thought of his hot mouth pressed against my wet cunt.

“Now?”

“Now.” His eyes are dark and they flair wickedly as he moves in front of me to the floor of the limo. He raises my dress just as the limo slows. “Fuck,” he grits out as his eyes drop to his watch. “I thought we had more time.” Then his face is between my thighs, his stubble rubbing deliciously against the skin as his mouth inches closer to my pussy and his breath against my wet flesh has the beginnings of my orgasm dancing beneath my skin. I feel the limo slowing further and just before it comes to a stop, he presses a kiss to my satin-covered pussy, so light and so gentle that I convulse.

“Oh my god, Damian.” My clit is hard and pulsing and desperate for his lips to wrap around the sensitive flesh. I raise my hips closer to his mouth for more contact when he chuckles and pushes my hips back down.

“Later,” he grunts as he helps me to pull my dress back down.

Idon’t know what possessed me to do that, tease us both just before we arrived, and I know she’s just as frustrated with my actions. I get out of the car and make my way around the limo to open the door for Shay, when Paxton, dressed in a tuxedo and holding a single red rose, appears standing next to her door preparing to open it. “Thanks for getting her here.” He nods at me though I sense something dismissive in his tone as he opens the door.

From my vantage point, I can’t see her face but when he holds his hand out for her, I can see her shoo him away. She gets out of the car on her own even though I know she needs some help with the way the dress conforms to her.

Her eyes find mine immediately, holding my gaze for a second before she blinks away and a detached look moves up over her face as she settles back on Paxton.

“You look gorgeous,” he tells her, holding out the flower for her. The party is being held at Lorenzo DiLaurenti’s house, so there aren’t any paparazzi lurking around but there are some people out front; guests and waitstaff are walking around with drinks and there are a number of men running the valet, so she puts on a smile for any potential onlookers and takes the flower before running it under her nose gently.

“Thank you. You look nice.” She runs her gaze over him once, not quite the same way she looked me over, but enough to trigger just a spike of jealousy in my memory that she used to date this man and she does find him attractive. His hand finds the small of her bare back as they move up the walkway covered with a red velvet carpet. The house is enormous and there is a huge tent set up behind the house where the party is going to be held. While she was getting ready, I left her with a member of my team that I have in place for events and scoped out the location. It’s been a while since anything worried me, but there are times, especially at parties like this, when I can’t be sure of everyone who’ll be in attendance and it requires me to be extra vigilant. There aren’t any overt threats at the moment, but you never know who could be hiding in plain sight.

We make it to the tent and Paxton picks two flutes off the tray, handing one to her, and I hate the picture he’s painting of the doting boyfriend. Thoughts of him trying to liquor her up and charm his way into her bed tonight flash through my brain and an irrational anger moves through me.

She’s not mine.

I’m casually walking through the tent when I hear my last name being called from behind me. I turn to see Paxton’s head of security, Brent Jackson, dressed in a black suit versus a tuxedo. He nods towards me, nursing a glass of whiskey in a highball glass.

“Jackson.” I nod at him as I continue walking. We aren’t particularly friends, and now I’m wondering just how much he knew about Paxton’s extra-curricular women and it pisses me off that he probably enabled that bullshit.

“She looks great.” He nods towards Shay and my eyes follow his line of sight.

She’s talking to a group of people, commanding their attention just as she always does. When Shay is in a room, all eyes find her. Even if it’s just for a moment. People want to be near her. She’s got this energy that’s intoxicating and sexy that draws you in. A boisterous laugh leaves the crowd and I see Paxton wrap his arm around her waist and press a kiss to her temple. I wait for her to tense or appear uncomfortable but she doesn’t and though I know why, because she’s got ten sets of eyes on her, it bothers me more than I care to admit that he can touch her so freely.

Get your shit together, Hunt.

“He wants her back, I know. But he’s going to have to do better than this, I told him.” Brent tucks a hand in his pocket. “He thinks that they’ll just fall back into old patterns if they fake it long enough.”

The crowd somewhat disperses and Paxton and Shay make their way to the dance floor to begin a slow dance around the space. There are several other couples dancing and pictures are being snapped from all angles. I watch as he spins her effortlessly before dipping her and a giggle leaves her.

She looked so beautiful and carefree. I hate that he gets to see it after everything he’s put her through. Even if it is just for show.

I turn my head back to Brent who now has a plate of bacon-wrapped scallops.
