“No.”
“She would have loved it! You could have swooped her up in your arms and just laid one on her. She would have swooned and been begging for you to take her,” he insists as we pull into the Knight Security parking lot.
“Take her where?” I ask, knowing what he means but hoping I can get him off this subject.
“Sex, Gates. Jeez, don’t tell me that we need to have that conversation now, too,” he groans, and I debate jumping out of the car.
“Please stop.”
“Listen to me and I’ll have you married to Dillon in no time.”
“Right.”
“I’m serious!” He insists. “I’m basically Cupid now.”
“Uh-huh, and how many romantic comedies have you been watching lately?” I ask him, and he laughs.
“Quite a few, actually. Aria loves them.”
A twinge of jealousy hits me as I see how happy and in love he is with his dream girl. I want what he has, what Rhett and Anson have. And I want it with Dillon.
“Let’s go ask Anson and Rhett. You know that they’re going to agree with me.”
I sigh as I climb out of his car and head for the front door.
Maybe we’ll get really busy and won’t have time to talk about any of this.
I’m not that lucky, though.
“How did it go? Are you two engaged yet?” Rhett asks as soon as I walk in the door.
“No.”
“Bummer,” Anson says, and I glare at him as I head for my office.
The three of them follow me into my office, and I groan as I fall into my desk chair.
“We don’t have to do this,” I tell them, but they ignore me.
“Why haven’t you made a move yet?” Rhett asks.
“The time isn’t right,” Kye says, trying to imitate me.
“It wasn’t,” I tell him. “We were always gone.”
“Uh-huh,” he says, and I sigh.
“Don’t we have a new client that we should be discussing?” I ask, trying to change the subject.
“Yeah, but it can wait a minute,” Anson assures me.
I glare at him, and he grins.
“Are we still on for lunch today?” Kye asks, looking at his phone.
“Yeah, Lottie is meeting us there,” Anson says, and Rhett nods.
“Same with Quinn.”
