My heart beats wildly as I stare at the title.

“Marry Me” by Train.

“That day, I wanted to blurt out those words. Marry me. I wanted to drop to my knees and beg you to spend your life with me, but I barely got up the nerve to ask your name. And when I did, you told me to earn it.” He chuckles.

While I brush at the tears cascading down my face, he hits Play. Then he gently takes the phone from my shaking hand and sets it on the ledge beside us.

And before I know it, he’s on his knee, the blue of his eyes shimmering like a glacier under a clear, sunny sky as he gazes up at me. “Marry me, Kitten. Grow old with me. Give me the opportunity to give you a song every day for the rest of your life. Because I love you. I’mhopelesslyin love with you,” he says with an almost exasperated laugh. “Completely. Irrevocably. Head over fucking heels in love with you,” he murmurs. “I know I don’t deserve you, but I’m begging you to marry me anyway.”

His expression falls when I shake my head, but I’m quick to explain. “You are everything I deserve, Jay.Only you,” I whisper.

“Is that a yes?” Chloe shouts from behind me, making me jump.

I crane my neck, spotting our daughter standing at the door with Cynthia and Sophie. Every one of them is grinning at us.

“You did good,” I whisper, turning back to him. With a nod, I hold my hand out, motioning for him to stand. “It’s a heck yes!” I shout with a laugh.

Jay lets out a loud whoop and jumps to his feet. Then he’s pulling me into his arms and spinning me. We’re a whirlwind of energy, and just like in that moment I first pressed my lips to his, the season wraps around us. The air changes, and the fallen leaves on the rooftop kick up and flutter as we spin.

He presses his lips to mine, lighting me up from the tips of my fingers to my toes. When he pulls away slightly, I go in for one more.

“May I?” He holds out his hand, palm up, showing me the underside of a ring he has on his pinky finger.

I nod and giggle. The ring hadn’t even crossed my mind. My man on his knees before me was more than enough. He grabs my hand and slides the ring onto my finger so all I can see is the band. I gasp as the yellow diamond comes into view when he spins it over.

“Jay, this thing is probably visible from the moon,” I tease.

He smirks. “Good. Then everyone will know you’re mine.”

I press a kiss to Jay’s jaw, then spin in his arms and holler, “Okay, guys, you can come here now.”

The three most important women in my life rush out and immediately fawn over the ring. Cynthia and Sophie take turns hugging me and wiping away their own tears, and Chloe’s got hearts in her eyes as she hugs her father.

Champagne and sparkling cider appear, courtesy of the man from downstairs, and we toast.

“Will you dance with me, Kitten?”

“Of course. Chlo, pick a song. There are, like, five thousand to choose from,” I tease. “Jay, give her your phone.”

Jay’s chuckle sends the fine hairs at my neck fluttering as he whispers, “I think I can do one better.”

He nods to the guide-slash-server who’s waiting by the door to the roof. When he pulls it open, a man with a guitar steps out into the sunlight.

“Holy fucking shit, Jay. That’s Chris Martin!” My hands tremble as I spin around to look at my fiancé.

He smiles so damn casually and kisses my cheek. I’m dumbfounded and maybe a little woozy as he steps away to say a few words to Chris fucking Martin.

“Soph!” I whisper shout, unable to keep my cool.

She tilts her head at me in response, and beside her, Chloe is beaming.

“Did you all know about this?”

Silently, the three women who became my family when I lived in a world of utter darkness all nod.

Jay guides the lead singer of Coldplay over and introduces us. “Chris, this is Catherine,my fiancée,” he says with a glint in his eye. “And Cat, this is Chris.”

This is Chris. Oh sure, just Chris.
