“You know who could fix this,” she says.

“Who?”

I’ll do anything to keep this from airing.

“The magazine and channel eight are owned by the same company. They’re part of the same media conglomerate.”

As quickly as a sliver of relief was dangled in front of me, it’s snatched back.

Would Jay really work with Vanessa and Grace to take down my family? He’s upset about Chloe, but this is insane.

When we pull up to the James building, I fling the SUV door open and rush inside. My blood pressure rises as I ride in the elevator, my eyes darting to the penthouse button. My stomach rolls as I think of everything that led us to this moment. To the many times Jay and I rode in this space, our hands itching to touch one another, our bodies only inches apart. To the desperation I felt when he almost walked away before we even started.

God, please don’t let him be behind this.

Stalking past the receptionist who yells after me, I burst into Cash’s office, the last bit of my control gone. If Jay is behind this, we may have to add murder to the laundry list of James scandals hitting the media today.

“Did you get Grace pregnant?”

He lets out a surprised guffaw. “What? No.What are you talking about?”

Anxious about what I have to do, I bite the inside of my cheek and stare at my phone. I hate that I’m about to hurt my brother, but I don’t have a choice. I need to confirm it’s Cash’s child and not Chloe they’re referring to.

“What’s wrong, Kit Cat?”Cash asks, his caring tone breaking me.

I shake my head. My newly healed heart splinters. Because I’m the one who put him in this position. I should have minded my own business rather than pushing Vanessa on him. And I never should have trusted Jay.

Fuck.

“I don’t even know how to say this. I think I fucked up.”Shit. I can’t even look at him.

The tension in the room is so thick I can taste it.

“What did you do to Grace, Cat?” he grits out.

My temper flares at the insinuation that Grace is the innocent one here. “I didn’t do anything to that media whore.” Taking another step toward my brother, I fling the phone at him.

And before my eyes, my brother’s heart crumbles as he watches footage of Grace betraying him in the worst way possible, spilling all of our family secrets in order to boost her business.

I bite my lip. “It gets worse.”

“How could it get worse, Cat?”

“The tell-all involves the story about our family. But she hinted that it involved a hidden baby. If that’s not yours and Grace’s, whose is it?”

The door to the office swings open and crashes into the wall behind it. “Motherfucker!” Carter shouts as he barrels into the room. “Motherfucker, motherfucker, motherfucker.”

His face is beet-red, and his hair is a mess, like he’s been raking his hands through it.

“What’s wrong?”Cash asks.

“I’ve got a fucking kid!A fucking kid! And they’re doing a story about it, as if I’m some deadbeat dad.”

Cash’s face is like stone. “What are you talking about?”

He throws his phone at Cash. It bounces off his chest and clatters to the floor. He crouches to retrieve the phone, and once he’s upright again, he studies its screen. “Who is this?”

“My friend who works at channel eight. She sent me a heads-up. They’re running a tell-all on our family tonight. Apparently, they have inside information on our family, and someone we know is going to verify it all on air.”
