“Do you know who I am?!” he screeches.

And just like that, I make a fist and pop him in the jaw as hard as I can. He reels back, gaping at me. I point a finger at him, getting close to his face once more.

“Don’t fuck with me, you drunken idiot,” I growl. “I’ve already seen enough of your kind in my life to know just how little you’re worth.”

“That’s enough.” Calum steps in, calmly putting himself between us. “Come on, Keir. You’ve said all that you need to say.”

Bucking my body forward at the other man, I’m satisfied when he nearly falls all over himself backing away. Calum grabs my arm and pulls me along, past the stunned looking gala and goes toward the penthouse elevators.

It’s only when the elevator doors open and I hear Kaia calling for us to wait that I start to regain my senses. Leaning against the stainless steel wall, I feel the rage begin to fade.

Kaia and Ella slip in the elevator that Calum holds for them. Kaia flashes her husband a tight smile, but her expression falls when she looks at me.

Ella sidles right up to me, standing perfectly straight and looking at me with amusement. “And here I thought that you were the normal one.”

My lips twitch and I grunt. Calum lets the doors close and presses the button for the lobby.

“Where to now?” Kaia asks quietly.

Calum claps me on the shoulder. “What do you say to a drink somewhere quieter?”

I think for a second. “The bar next to my hotel is nice. The Continental. Have you heard of it?”

Kaia coughs into her hand. Calum smiles secretively. “You could say that.”

Kaia whispers something to Ella. Ella looks at me with a calculating expression, like she’s trying to figure me out.

Kaia is right about one thing. Ella is perfect. But will I be satisfied if I merely take her home to be my child’s au pair?

A tightness in my chest says I won’t be satisfied until I take Ella to my bed for the night.

I should know better. Ella is too young, too beautiful. There is no way she’s not every bit as wild as Kinsley, my ex. For so many reasons, she should be off limits to me in a way that women rarely are.

You know what they say about forbidden fruit, though… it always tastes the sweetest. And I can’t stop myself, not after being alone for so long.

And what’s the worst that can happen? After tomorrow, I’ll be half a world away… so why not just enjoy her now?

CHAPTERFIVE

A prickle of sensation at the base of my neck alerts me to the fact that Keir is staring at me. We are pressed tightly together in the back seat of a chauffeured limousine with Kaia and Calum sitting across from us.

Keir is spread out, his long legs and arms eating up most of the space on our soft leather bench seat. He seems unapologetic about the way that his thigh and shoulder press tightly against mine. He shifts, his gaze flickering to meet mine.

Keir’s mouth lifts at the corners, forming the faintest smirk. “What?”

He’s flirting with me. There is no doubt about it. I swallow and lift my chin, defiant.

“Could you move over a little?”

His mouth twitches, amusement in his eyes.

“I don’t think so, Ella.”

His eyes dip from mine to my cleavage for a second. I flush, getting hot and cold all over.

“You’re a jerk.”

Keir tilts his head. “I’ve been called much worse.”
