“Did I miss the part where he moved to Paris? Anyway, I’m not trying to be a party pooper, but what are you trying to achieve by rushing to his side to heal his supposedly broken heart? What if there’s no breakup? It’s half-baked and doomed to fail, in my humble opinion.”

“I don’t recall asking for it.” I stick out my tongue at her.

“Very mature of you, Nino Toussaint! And, for the record, it feels likedéjà vu…Well,déjà entendusince the situation involved him, but was different, though your words weren’t! You’re so full of shit sometimes. Why am I here, if not to talk some sense into you?”

“Because you have a passion for packing and can’t get enough of me!” I wink.

“Obviously... but there’s more to it. As usual, I’m the voice of reason.”

“And this voice says that I’m making a mistake?”

“Nah, it’s saying that you’ve been chasing ghosts ever since your famous father left—”

“Enough, Garcia,” I warn, irritated at the mention of my lousy father. “I’m a big boy and don’t have daddy issues. Like I told you last night, I have no intention of crashing at his place, wherever he is. I just want to be there for him in case he needs me...”

“Again, shouldn’t you make sure that’s the case first? Who knows, maybe his boyfriend proposed and they eloped in Vegas before said boyfriend started a new gig in Cali?”

“That’s a possibility and a risk that I’m willing to take. If a rebound is what he needs, that’s fine by me.”

“But why? Seriously, Nino. You guys are friends, but you barely know each other. Hundreds of texts, a handful of video chats, and a trip to New York hardly constitute a friendship—”

“Says who?” I interrupt, but her verbal diarrhea continues after coughing lightly.

“Let alone a solid foundation for a relationship that you claim to not want. You’re not making any sense.”

I shrug. She may be right, but who cares? I’m in between jobs, so why not cross the ocean and escape rainy Paris? “Sorry, not sorry!” Another shrug. “Plus, don’t you interact with tons of people online on a daily basis?”

“For work or entertainment?” she mumbles under her breath. “You know what? Forget it. Suit yourself.” She swallows, sprints out of the room with the suitcase, and looks down at me from the threshold. “Listen, if you feel this is the right decision, follow your gut. It’s just so unlike you to pursue someone, especially when that someone lives a million miles away and you prefer hookups to commitment.”

“I’m not pursuing him. I… I have a bad feeling about what happened back in New York. I’ll go there and check on him, make sure that he’s okay. Okay?”

“Okay, but...” She giggles. “Just so you know, you’re not fooling anyone! If you’re so concerned, modern technology is the fastest solution to put an end to your unbearable anguish, my friend.” I play with my dreadlocks in a feeble attempt to ignore her mockery. Shaking her head, she mutters something about having to take care of everything as usual. With mischief flashing in her big eyes, she cocks her head. “Now, peel your sumptuous butt off the floor and hop in my car.”

My brows climb, and my interest is definitely piqued. As much as I enjoy Ubering my way across the city, I have a feeling that she’s not done grilling me, and I would hate to leave her with more questions than she had when we started discussing Ash last night. Her handgrabs the carry-on. “Get your phone and coat. I’m taking you to the airport before I change my mind. Hurry up! You know that I hate traffic, and it’ll be especially terrible around lunchtime on a Saturday,” she says loudly, already striding towards the front door. I frown, wondering how we managed to spend the majority of the morning packing. I chuckle when I check my phone and see that it’s only eleven-ish; her exaggerations are part of her charm… At least, that’s what I keep telling myself while I walk to join her and lock the door.

“Aren’t you happy that I’m parked right in front of the building?”

I peck her cheek when the elevator door closes behind us.

“What was that for?”

“Putting up with my nonsense when you could have stopped me.”

“Never.”

CHAPTER14

HABITS (STAY HIGH)

Ash

Blindfolds were my favorite accessory. They made me expectant, focused on my remaining senses rather than being stuck in my head.

“Stay still.” The sting of a hard slap on my bare cheek rings in my head, and Silas expertly adjusts the rope that held my wrists over my head. A wicked grin flashes on his gorgeous face; I bet he’s thinking of the marks that’ll mar my skin. “You can’t get enough, can you?”

“Yes,sir.” Ah, so that’s why he changed his mind and removed the ball gag. The word made him hard like no other.

“Did I ever tell you that your uncle taught me how to tie nautical knots?” His question was delivered between gasps as he thrusted inside me unapologetically, rightfully owning every harsh whimper that escaped my lips. “Who would have thought it’d come in handy?” Being my first, I had no clue if that was typical for a dom or was just Silas being Silas. He could be awfully talkative when we fucked; yeah, making love wasn’t in the cards for us, young horny men that we were. Neither was role-playing, which required way too much forethought! But being entertained by his expert hands, tongue, cock, fingers, lips, and teeth was exquisite. Getting acquainted with my prostate, only to be denied the ability to do as I pleased with my own body, was strangely soothing. It suited us the way that our agreement did.
