Heading to the office.

He would text me back once the line was secure, and who knew when that would be, so I sat back on my bed and waited.

And waited.

Finally, thirty minutes later, my phone buzzed.

A:

Call now. Make it quick.

“Is there a problem?” Alexei answered.

“I need a favour,” I said. Alexei didn’t give out many favours, and if he did, there was a high price.

“This must be serious. You’ve never asked for one before.”

“I never had a reason.”

I never wanted to ask him for anything. The return on them was threefold.

And it was never good.

“Let me guess, this is about a girl.”

“Not just any girl.”

“It’s always about a girl,” he groaned. “So then, the rumours are true.”

“What rumours?”

“You’re fucking Hellcat, aren’t you?”

"She's my woman, yeah," I confessed. "But that's not why I'm calling."

“I’m surprised you’re not already dead.”

“Their prez likes me.”

“More like tolerates.”

I muttered, “Whatever.”

“Spit it out then.”

“Someone has taken her, and we can’t find who.”

“And you want me to make some calls?”

“Yes,” I ground out.

“She’s worth it?”

“I wouldn’t be using a favour if she wasn’t.”

“For your sake, I hope she is. I’ll call back if I find something.”
