“Among other things. You’re not a cold hearted bastard like he is, so I’d say your eyes are more like Ana’s than Alexei’s.”

“How long have you known?”

“I knew something was up the day you came here. Alexei and my brother were having a heated discussion in the office, and I overheard some of it. Granted I didn’t figure a lot of it out until after I had spent some time with you.”

“Do the guys know?”

“I’m sure they suspect there’s something going on, but I wanted to talk to you before we all sat down. I don’t think it’s information any of the other Reapers need to know until Erik okays it. There’s a reason none of us were told, and I’m sure it has to do with what’s going on in the Bratva.”

He nodded. “Alexei doesn’t want me or Ana to be used against him. Neither of us have the same last name, but me being near Alexei all the time drew too much attention. So he made the decision to move me here. He told me that since it worked so well for his sister to be guarded by the Reapers, that it would work well for me to be here too.”

“You don’t need guarding,” I told him.

“Probably not, but it’s added protection for our sister just in case someone figures out where she is and comes for her.”

“When do you want to tell them?” I asked.

“Soon,” he responded. “Now I’m going to ask you a question.”

“Sure.”

“Why do you keep fighting all of this?” Dimitri asked.

“Because nothing this good can last.”

ChapterThirty-Seven

HARLEIGH

Considering the events last month,I wasn’t about to make a stupid mistake and go alone, so I texted the guys and said I was going out.

Liam had thrown down the friend card and roped me into going out. Time had flown by since I’d gotten back, and I didn’t realize how much I had neglected our relationship. The last thing I wanted to do was push him out of my life because I suddenly had three men vying for my attention.

It had always perplexed me when I thought about those girls who threw everything into their intimate relationships, foregoing all the friendships they had cultivated over the years. One of the girls who, after the relationship ended, was unable to reinsert themselves into the friendships that they had so casually tossed aside. Then again, maybe I was just one of those people who always saw the end to the relationship rather than the positive of it carrying on forever.

After I found out where we were going, it took me an hour to find something semi-appropriate to wear. Something that looked more college student hot, than biker chick sexy. The last thing I needed tonight was someone to think I was easy. My life was complicated enough.

I took a deep breath and opened my door. I let out a pathetically girly squeal and teetered back, only to have my movements halted by Hunter’s hand grasping my bare arm.

“Warn a girl,” I told him once I composed myself.

“I had my hand raised to knock on your door when it opened.”

“Whatever,” I retorted.

His gaze travelled down my body, and once his perusal was over, he met my eyes and quirked his brow. “What the fuck are you wearing?”

“You don’t like it?” I fake pouted.

“You're smoking hot no matter what you put on, but when you wear leather the last thing on my mind is treating you like a lady!”

My ovaries did a happy dance.

“Is that so?” I asked. “Tell me more.”

He glanced around as if he were making sure that the coast was clear. It was a smart move considering you never knew who was hiding around the corner here. Could be a patched in member keeping an eye on me, or a psycho biker slut looking for a leg up by offering specialized information to the right brother.

“Are you mad, woman? If I get a stiffy while I'm alone in here with you, and any one of your brothers caught me, they wouldn’t hesitate to chop it off.”
