“I need to call to thank them personally,” I smiled.

They adored me and considered me as someone who was a part of their family.

“Sure,” he replied. “But after your surprise.”

“There’s still more?”

Dylan was one of the busiest men I knew, but somehow, he always made time for me.

“Yes.”

“Are you going to tell me what it is?” I demanded.

“Nope, wouldn’t be much of a surprise then, would it?”

There was a light breeze in the air, and everything felt perfect. I’d had two glasses of wine over dinner and felt just the tipsy enough.

“Come, let’s take a walk by the beach,” Dylan grabbed my hand and guided me to the white sands after we had finished our food.

We walked together, hand in hand. I noticed that Dylan looked a little nervous.

“What’s gotten into you?” I asked.

It was not every day that I saw him get nervous like this. He was the most confident man I knew.

“Come,” he took my hand and led me out to a spot on the beach. A small blanket had been laid out.

We both went over and stood on it. The night sky was illuminated with vibrant colors.

“Wow,” I breathed out, looking at the sky. Dylan had arranged for a firework show. “It’s so beautiful.”

When I turned to look at Dylan, he wasn’t standing anymore. He was on his knees now. I realized the fireworks had only been a distraction. I gasped, covering my mouth with my hands.

“Kathy,” he said, and took out a small box from his pocket. “A year with you has felt like an eternity. It has been the best year of my life. I think we met because we are soulmates, and there’s a string connecting me to you, wherever you go.”

I could barely comprehend what was happening in front of me. But I was unable to take my eyes off him.

“Every day with you feels like an adventure. And honestly, I want all my days to be like this from now on. Kathy,” he cleared his throat, opening the box to reveal a massive diamond ring.

“You are the love of my life. Will you marry me?”

My breath hitched in my throat and tears began to pool in my eyes. No words escaped my mouth, but I nodded, letting out unintelligible sounds of delight as I jumped into his arms.

“Yes, a thousand times yes,” I finally screamed out, as he put the ring on my finger.

“I love you,” he said, as he stood back up and holding his forehead against mine.

“I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you,” he said before kissing me.

I knew I was the luckiest woman alive in that moment. If we were to go back in time and Dylan were to ask me to be his fake girlfriend, I would gladly say yes over and over again.
