Page 98 of Deceitful Vows

Andrei’s expression tightens as I drive my hips into him. I don’t care if I’m acting wild and crazy as I shout his name. I tell him I want it. I tell him I missed him. I tell him what I did in my bed alone at night. His misty gaze watches me until his mouth crashes against mine. I ride him shamelessly, making him come hard. Clinging to him as he shouts and then holding him while he catches his breath.

We lie there under the sun, holding hands. I took a chance, but deep down, I knew he would face the Bratva to keep me. I did the same to keep him.

“You always surprise me,” Andrei smirks, then lets out a deep breath.

“Is it the sex?” I tease.

He shakes his head. “It’s everything about you. I will always want you.”

A tear catches in my throat as I cuddle with him. The waves lull us asleep, and we stay out in the open for everyone to see. But no one is around. Finally, freedom.

Epilogue

Paige

Later, Andrei slips on a shirt to cover his tattoos, and we take the water taxi to the restaurant on the public beach for the guests. The resort is what I would’ve imagined when I was a kid. Delicious food cooked over firepits under the stars and neon drinks decorated with umbrellas are served at thatch-covered bars. Andrei and I head for the bar, and he motions to Raymond, the bartender.

“I see you brought him along, Paige,” Raymond jokes easily with everyone. “And he’s here without his laptop.”

I smile giddily. “He’s only allowed to touch me for the rest of the trip.”

“But only when she asks,” jokes Andrei.

The teasing continues as usual while we argue about the future, not how we used to, but in a playful tone. No one can lose. We have so many good options that we just can’t decide.

“Where do you want to live?” I try again. “I would think you’d want to get away from that mansion.”

He tilts an eyebrow, picking up on my little joke. “I’m not living in a house in the suburbs, Paige.”

“Then a penthouse in the city?” I ask.

Andrei scoffs, “Not with my baby. What if she wants a yard?”

“She should learn how to walk first.”

The sun begins to set, and the sky turns into a beautiful swirl of pink and gold over the horizon. We spent a day arguing over where we would live and who we would socialize with. And then the wedding plans enter the mix.

I lean my elbows on the bar. “We don’t have to get married again, Andrei.”

“We will get married again,” he replies as Raymond serves us seltzer. “I want a real wedding for you.”

I scoff helplessly. “I don’t see how we can avoid inviting Dmitri and Natasha.”

“No, not on the list. If we invite one Bratva, then it becomes a Bratva wedding,” he explains. “Then you’d have to invite Viktor and Vanya. Slava and Lev. And what about Popov? He’ll be insulted.”

I sigh. “Why do we know so many people?”

“Paige, I don’t want a big wedding,” he says in a firm voice. “Only our sisters, and that’s it.” He grabs me around the waist and tickles the pout off my face.

I giggle as his hand squeezes my ass. “Well, I still think we should invite Natasha and Dmitri.”

I smile, pleased that he’s determined to have this for us. We’ve been together for a year, and the responsibilities of life together are seeping in. The more we discuss marriage, the more we seem farther away from a resolution.

“It was easier winning the war,” he mumbles.

“It was easier giving birth,” I mumble back.

Andrei takes my hand and presses it to his lips. It’s my favorite thing that he does. It’s so old-fashioned but sexy at the same time. Still, does he miss his old life? Will Veronika and I be enough to keep him from going insane with boredom?
