By mutual agreement, Jenny and Toby had moved in with Aunt Laurie.It meant they both got company.My aunt doted on Toby and babysat for Jenny sometimes.Toby had started to attend a daycare, and Jenny had a job at the retirement home a couple of miles outside town, coordinating a programme of events for the residents.She’d already asked if I would teach a baking class there once a fortnight, and I was going to say yes.
I felt exceptionally lucky.
When the photos were done, I crossed over to Rick and lifted my face for his kiss.Before our lips met, several people around us groaned good-naturedly, but I ignored them.
“You miss me?”
I chuckled.It had been only three hours since I’d left the house.“I have, actually.”
Toby wiggled in between our bodies and I scooped him up.“You want some attention too, huh?”
“Aaaadie!”He exclaimed.It was the first time he’d said my name and I was delighted.
Jenny came to hug me and Toby immediately lurched for her.Sheoofedwhen she shouldered him.“Dude.You have to start walking more.You’re getting heavy.”
As the crowd dispersed, Connor and Jess settled back behind the counter to serve the remaining queue.Rick snagged my hand before I could go inside.“Not so fast.Gimme some somethin' sweet.”
I grinned and kissed him, allowing a second to linger over it.“That’s all you get until tonight.I’ll bring a couple of leftover bakes home, if there are any, shall I?”
He smiled against my lips, as the sun shone down on us."You're all the sugar I need.”
