She glares and pushes him toward the dining table. “Do that again and you can forget about being fed,” she warns him. Asher smiles as he takes a seat. I help Emilia finish the breakfast she was making and use any excuse to sneak little touches and kisses in. By the time we have breakfast on the table, she’s as frustrated as I am.

“How did you like the coffee cup?” Asher asks Emilia.

I groan and run a hand through my hair. “She didn’t even finish the damn coffee. I ended up having to throw her coffee on the floor to show her the message.”

Asher bursts out laughing, and Emilia blushes. She places her hand over mine and I raise it to my lips. Asher looks away and smiles. “I can just tell you two are going to be one of those sickeningly sweet couples.”

I shrug and grin at my girlfriend. “We’re not like that,” I say, and Emilia nods in agreement. Asher looks at our entwined hands and shakes his head.

“You guys gonna tell Kate?”

I glance at Emilia, and she shakes her head. “We just kind of thought we’d enjoy dating first,” she murmurs, and Asher grimaces.

“Yeah, she’ll find a way to make your relationship about her,” he says bitterly. Emilia frowns at him but remains silent. I can’t even blame Asher for his resentment toward Kate. She really fucked up with him.

“I don’t think we can hide it for very long, though,” Emilia murmurs. I nod. At some point we’ll need to tell her, but I’m definitely not looking forward to that.

“Hey Minx,” I whisper. Emilia leans into me and looks at me with raised brows. “Will you go on a date with me tonight?”

It’s been years, but we haven’t ever truly dated. We had that first date in the lake at the summer cabin, and then Emilia’s sixteenth birthday, but neither was a true date. I want to make up for all the time I missed, and I want to spoil my girl just a little. Saying I love you isn’t enough, I want to show her I mean it.

Emilia blushes and nods at me. “I’d love to.”

I’m antsy the rest of the day. I dropped Emilia back at her dorm after breakfast, and I’ve been counting down the minutes since. I’ve never been an insecure person, but today I actually changed my shirt three times. Emilia has seen me in pretty much every outfit I own, and she’s seen me grow through all my awkward phases, but I still want to look good for her. It’s like being in an official relationship with her makes everything feel brand new.

I’m nervous by the time I leave. Emilia asked me to pick her up around the corner of her dorm, and I hate that we’re going out of our way to hide our relationship. I never should’ve agreed to that, but I also don’t want to deal with Kate once she finds out. I kinda want to enjoy some peace and quiet with my Minx, before Kate inevitably blows up.

“Hey,” she says as she walks up to me. I lean back against my car as my eyes roam over her. She looks amazing tonight. She’s wearing a loose summer dress that showcases her boobs beautifully. She’s so stunning… I can barely believe she’s mine.

“Hey,” I whisper. I pull her toward me and kiss her, but she pulls away. I frown, but she avoids my gaze and hops into my car.

She’s quiet on the way to the restaurant, and I can’t help but worry. Does she regret making our relationship official? I don’t understand why she isn’t as excited as I am.

Thankfully, her eyes light up when I park in front of La Familia. She grins up at me and I step out of the car and run around to open her door. I grab her hand and entwine our fingers as we walk to the entrance. Lita smiles at us when we walk in and glances at our joined hands, her eyes dancing with excitement.

“You two came to your senses, huh?” she says. I nod and lean in to hug Lita, lifting her right off her feet.

“I told this boy he was crazy for not making you his girlfriend,” she tells Emilia.

I nod in confirmation and Emilia blushes. “Don’t worry, Lita,” I tell her. “She’s mine now, and I’m not letting her go.”

Lita claps me on the back and leads us back to the same table we had last time.

“You look far more relaxed,” I say. Emilia looks up at me, startled. She bites down on her lip, her expression falling.

“I was just worried about being seen with you. I don’t want Kate to find out. I know we’ll have to tell her eventually, but I don’t want to do it right now.”

I sigh and nod. “I know what you mean, but I also don’t want to hide it. We’re finally together after so many years, it seems stupid to keep it hidden for even a second longer.”

Emilia nods and smiles sadly. “I know, babe. Just a few months, though. Let’s just have a few months together before we tell her. I have a feeling things won’t be the same anymore once we do.”

I nod and look away, unsure what to say. “What are you going to tell her, though? How are you going to justify spending nights with me or hanging out together?”

Emilia looks down and I just know I’m not going to like her answer. “Random hook-ups and tutoring?”

I sigh and close my eyes. “We tell everyone this summer, okay? The academic year is almost over, anyway. We’ll tell them when we go home. This summer I want you in my bed, Minx. I want to be able to throw my arm around you on the sofa and go on dates without having to make any excuses.”

Emilia smiles at me and nods. Truthfully, I’m just glad we’re finally together. Part of me is glad we’re on the same page, though. A few months of dating without any pressure from my family is exactly what we need.
