“I know. The boys would find so much to do. Sometimes the guys will go down there and work on their bikes so the bigger ones can watch and ask questions. I tease Falcon they do it so they have future employees at the garage. He doesn’t deny it.”

“Do they ever get to go to the custom garage here and watch them build the bikes and paint them?” I knew Falcon worked with three others, making custom bikes. He was an artist with design. They had designed and painted Soleil’s last racing bike. She wasn’t doing that anymore, or at least not professionally, but she loved that bike.

“They have. Hey, I wanted to let you know that Mom and I talked. She and JJ got back from their trip. They said if you need someone to watch the kids while you get some work done, to let her know.”

“Sol, surely she should enjoy her last few days before going back to work. Your mom works too hard as a nurse to give up her last vacation days. They’re taken care of.”

I loved Soleil’s mom, Caro, and her stepdad, JJ. They were like parents to me and they’d adopted me since the divorce. I hadn’t known them that well when they lived in Florida, but now that they relocated to Tennessee to be closer to Soleil and her family, we’d seen more of each other.

“Oh, you’re going to send them to the daycare! Yes! I was hoping you’d say yes to that, although I thought you’d be stubborn about it.”

“No, I’m not sending them there. It’s too much to ask and I’m not imposing on the club more than I already have. It’s a great place, but I won’t accept the club’s charity any further.”

I heard her deep sigh clearly. “Tonya, it’s not charity when it’s your friends and family doing it. How many times do I have to tell you that? Seriously, you need your ass beaten. I wonder which Warriors I could ask to do that? Hmm, I wonder. I heard a certain prospect seemed to be paying you a lot of attention. Maybe I should ask Law to spank some sense into you,” she teased.

My face flushed red just thinking of him spanking me. I’ll admit, I was intrigued by the idea. Dan had never done anything like that, but I read enough of those spicy romances to get ideas. I hurried to cover the silence her suggestion caused as I blanked out for a few moments.

“You’ll do no such thing or I’ll kill you. Law is just being nice and doing his job as a policeman and prospect. Don’t go getting any ideas. And don’t you dare say anything to any of the others.”

“Come on, don’t tell me he’s not F-I-N-E, fine. I’m married, not dead. In fact, a woman would be lucky to catch any of the remaining single Warriors, but the one who gets Law is getting even more. After what that man went through, he’ll protect his family like a rabid dog. I have no doubt. He won’t let what happened before happen again.”

“What do you mean, what happened before? What happened?” I couldn’t help but ask.

“Shoot, I forgot you didn’t know. Okay, you know that he and Nyssa were partners when she was on the force, right?”

I hummed in agreement.

“Well, they knew each other before that. See, Law and her best friend and second cousin, Frankie, were engaged about eight or nine years ago. Frankie found out her dad and two of her brothers were in the drug trade and she was determined to shut them down. Ultimately, her dad found out what she was going to do and had her killed. This led to Nyssa bringing evidence to the feds and sending her great-uncle and two of her three cousins to jail. Law was devastated. She died three months before their wedding. I don’t think he’s ever even dated anyone since then. If anyone deserves a family and a happily ever after, it’s him. Unless that person is you. You deserve to be happy too, Tonya. I told you that. Your life isn’t over just because Dan turned out to be a douche canoe and a rat bastard. You’re still young and beautiful and full of life. You’ll find someone.”

This was an old argument we had over and over. I didn’t want to get into it again, so I just made a mm-hmm sound. I was too busy thinking about what she’d just told me about Law. That poor man, he did deserve happiness. It wouldn’t be with someone like me, but I’d pray for him to find it. I couldn’t imagine how terrible that was. I wondered if he still loved her? He probably did if he didn’t date after all this time.

After that, I was quick to get her off the phone, so she wouldn’t circle back to talking about me sending the kids to the daycare again. I used the excuse I had more work to do before they got up, which wasn’t a lie. She sent us kisses and promised to see us in two days. I sent back our love then hung up. It was hard to get my head back into work after that call, but I did it.

From there, the rest of the day flew by. After the kids got up, I spent time with them. Then I cooked dinner and cleaned up that mess while they entertained themselves, watching a show. When that was done, it was outside to the playground for playtime until it was time to get ready for bed. They’d been happy to play with some of the kids. I was finding every night that at least a few of the Warriors’ kids found their way out to the playground with some of the parents. The older ones, like Hunter and Rowan, didn’t need to be supervised. Others had to have at least an adult watching them. I loved to see that it didn’t have to always be their own parent. Everyone seemed to take turns watching the kids.

By the time I tore them away from their new friends, got them bathed and in bed to sleep, I was drooping with fatigue, but I couldn’t go to bed. Like always, I had more work to do. Although it was the wrong thing to drink this late, I made a pot of coffee and settled down at the table. Time was passing quickly, and I wasn’t paying any attention to the clock. I only looked up when I did because there was a soft knock at the front door. Glancing up, I saw it was midnight already. Frowning, I got up to see who it was. I had no idea why anyone would be knocking this late, unless something had happened to Soleil and Falcon. My heart sped up as I rushed to tear the door open. I didn’t even bother to check to see who it was through the peephole in the door.

I was slightly taken back to find Law standing on my doorstep. He was dressed in his casual clothes. I tried not to think of how yummy he looked. Instead, I hurried to ask him why he was here.

“What’s wrong? Did something happen to Falcon and Soleil?” I asked urgently.

“No, no, nothing happened to them. Nothing is wrong. Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you into thinking that something was wrong. Is it alright if I come in? I saw the light and wanted to check and see how you’re doing and how the day went.”

It would be rude not to invite him inside, so I stepped back and waved for him to enter. As he passed, his cologne wafted past me. I drew it deep into my lungs. It smelled divine. He went straight to the table, since it was obvious that was where I was working.

“Can I get you a cup of coffee or something else to drink? I have water, soda, and tea. Sorry, no beer, I don’t drink it.”

“I’ll take some tea if you don’t mind. I assume it’s sweet tea.”

I gave him a grin as I got a glass and filled it with ice. “Of course it is. We’re in the South. Is there any other kind other than sweet? Although, I don’t make it taste like pure syrup like some. That’s too sweet for me.”

He laughed and accepted the glass. He took a big drink then sighed. “Perfect amount and I agree, the syrupy kind sucks. I can’t seem to be able to drink the unsweetened, even if it is better for me.”

“Same here. So, what brings you out this late? Are you on prospect rounds or something? Do you do rounds? Honestly, I’m not sure what all the club has you do or how you can do that and still work a job.”

He waved at the table. “It looks like you’re the same. Working again, I see. As for making rounds, yeah, we do sometimes, but not all the time. I just finished up my prospect duties at the clubhouse and was out for a walk before going to bed. I saw your light on. How did today go with Harlow? Did you like the daycare?”

“It was amazing and I loved it. So did the kids. That’s all Dena and Daniel could talk about after we got back. They’ve got it set up perfectly. Everyone I met was super nice and helpful.”
