“What brings you here, if not to play with our daughter? Surely, you’re not here to grace us with your exalted presence,” she teased, as I followed them into the kitchen.

“Damn, Hawk, haven’t you tamed her ass yet? I would’ve thought by now you’d have better control of your woman,” I mocked.

He scowled mockingly at me as she shrieked and tried to snap me with a dish towel. I got out of the way in the nick of time. I held up my hands in surrender when she came at me again.

“Kidding, kidding, don’t get your panties in a bunch. I did wanna see Izzy, and I hoped you might have time to talk.”

“Well, I might. It depends on what you want to talk about. Is it just me you want to talk to or both of us?” She got in the fridge and got all three of us a drink. I sat down at the island and they took a seat too.

“I’d rather talk to both of you, but if I can only have one, then I think I should talk to Nyssa.”

“Ooh, sounds intriguing. Hit us. What’s on your mind, Law?” she asked eagerly.

I didn’t say anything for a couple of moments as I gathered my courage then I just let it flow. “What would you think if I told you I was thinking of dating again?”

Nyssa gasped and looked from me to Hawk then back. I saw her look of astonishment, and what I thought might be hope.

“You’re serious? You’re not just messing with me, are you? The last time I approached you about getting back out there, you almost took my head off.”

“I know I did and I’m sorry. Yes, I’m serious.”

“I think it would be great. Of course, I’d only want the best woman for you, so I need to have veto power. None of those skanky-ass women who hang around the clubhouse,” she warned me.

“Huntress, let him talk. Besides, you do know that it’s his choice as to who he dates, right?” Hawk told her.

“Like hell. He’s my best friend and my brother. I can’t allow him to be with someone totally unsuited to make him happy. Do you have someone in mind, or are you just thinking about starting to date?”

Hawk groaned and shrugged as he looked at me as if to say,You’re on your own. I grinned at him. After all these years, I knew exactly what Nyssa was like. No one could be fiercer than her when it came to the ones she loved.

“I’m pretty sure I have someone in mind. I just want to know if you think Frankie would be alright with me doing it.”

A sadness came over her face as she took one of my hands in hers and she squeezed it. “Jake, listen to me. Frankie would’ve been the last one to ever want you to go the rest of your life without love, happiness, real companionship, and a family. I know you loved her. She loved you. However, part of loving someone is wanting them to be happy. You’re meant to be a husband and father if anyone is. Eight years is more than long enough to mourn her. It’s time to get on with your life. You’ve started a new chapter by joining the club. Why not go all the way and find a wife and start a family too? Tell me who this woman is. Do we know her?”

“I think you’re right. Frankie would want me to be happy. And yes, you know her. In fact, the whole club does.” I paused to add to the suspense. For one thing, I was nervous about what she’d think and secondly, I liked to mess with her. She didn’t disappoint. She hit me hard in the arm.

“Well! Tell me, asshole, before I choke you.”

I laughed then dropped my bomb. “What do you think Tonya would say if I asked her to go out on a date with me? Do you think she’s ready to date after her divorce? I know it’s only been two years, but I don’t think she still has feelings for Dan.”

Her mouth dropped open in shock. Glancing at Hawk, I saw he didn’t look as surprised. He had a smug look on his face. I waited for Nyssa to say something. When she did, I almost had a heart attack. She jumped to her feet, squealed, and clapped her hands then danced in a circle.

“Oh my God, I can’t believe it! I think you and Tonya would be great together. As for whether she’s over Dan, I’m almost positive she is. From what Soleil has said, she realized their marriage was in trouble long before he cheated. It took that for her to see it was truly over. Does she know you like her? When are you going to ask her out? We can watch the kids. Do Soleil and Falcon know?”

“Take a second and calm down, babe. Let Law talk,” Hawk said with a grin.

“You don’t look surprised at my choice,” I told him.

“I can’t say that I am. I’ve seen the way you’ve acted around her this week. I know you’re a protective guy, but it seemed to be a tad more than just that. I heard you two went to the station because they brought in Dan. How did that go?”

“We can talk about Dan the Douche later. Right now, we’re talking about Law and Tonya,” Nyssa told him impatiently. Both of us laughed at her glare.

“There’s not much to tell. Yes, since she’s been here this week, I’ve found it hard not to think about her and the possibility of dating her. I’m not a hundred percent positive it’ll work out, but she’s the first woman I’ve wanted to ask on a date since Frankie. I’m hoping she feels the same. I haven’t said a word to Falcon or Soleil. I wanted to see what you thought first. It’s been so long since I’ve been on a date, I don’t know if I even recall where to start. What if she says no? I don’t want things to be awkward between us. No matter what happens between us, she’ll always be associated with the club due to Soleil. Maybe this isn’t such a good idea after all.” I started to doubt myself again.

“Don’t you dare second guess yourself. She’d be a fool not to go out with you. As much as it makes me sick to my stomach to say it, you’re handsome, sexy and a catch. Any woman would be lucky to date you. As for Tonya, I think she’s a sweetheart and she fits in with our crazy family. I say don’t procrastinate. Ask her out before you lose your confidence. If you need help persuading her, Soleil and I can talk to her.”

“God, that’s the last thing I need, you talking to her. She’ll run for the hills, screaming bloody murder if you do. Knowing you, you’ll threaten her if she doesn’t say yes,” I muttered.

“Maybe, maybe not. You’ll just have to work on convincing her on your own to be sure. Okay, let’s talk about when and where. That’s key. A first date sets the tone for your relationship and if there’s going to be one.”
