Her fingers spread over her growing child even as she reached for Apollo’s hand. “I’m so sorry. That stabbing was meant for me. I’m the one who killed his father.”

A sudden shout sounded outside the door. Then a low, guttural voice. “You can try to stop me, but you’ll regret it.”

Lena jumped off the bed and faced the door just as Slade slammed into the room. Her gaze landed on him—oh god, he was safe and whole—and her insides trembled.

His stare locked on her face before traveling all over her body as if to convince himself she wasn’t the wounded party.

“It’s not safe for you to be here,” he ground out at her.

“Slade.”

“I mean it, Lena. Mustang will take you back to headquarters. You can wait for me there.”

She set a hand on her hip. “Wait for you there? You may be large but you’re not in charge, Slade. I’m staying right here with Apollo. I have more questions to ask him.”

In a few strides, he stood across the bed from her with Apollo caught in the middle of their lovers’ spat that never seemed to be resolved no matter how many times it came up.

“These guys know they put him in the hospital, Lena. They’ll know that we’ll be keeping watch.”

“This is a military hospital, Slade. Security’s tight. Besides, I can look out for myself and Apollo too.” She tipped her jaw a notch.

They glared at each other, and Apollo looked between them, probably piecing all the components together.

Slade’s eyes narrowed. “I’m not leaving you, Lena. Not with my—”

She threw up a hand. “Don’t even say it!” She cut a look at Apollo. “I’m sorry for our behavior. You need rest.”

A woman entered the room carrying a cup of coffee in one hand.

Lena stared at her. “Indika, I thought you were going home to rest.”

“Got a coffee. It’s all I need. I’ll take it from here. You lovebirds should go work out your problems instead of shouting it to the entire hospital ward.” She sent them each a pointed look.

Lena groaned. “Does everybody know?”

“They do now.”

Damn Slade for looking secretly pleased at the prospect.

With another groan, Lena skirted around the bed, grabbing Slade’s arm and dragging him out. She swore she heard laughter ripple behind her. Well, at least she and Slade had offered a lighthearted break from the stress of Apollo’s injury.

She hauled him over to the elevators and stabbed the down button. The minute the doors opened, she yanked Slade in after her.

The doors barely shut before he pinned her against the wall, trapping her with his big, strong, muscled, hot body, and kissed her.

His lips were searing. His tongue, slick and hot as he dragged it across hers. Her insides tingled to life, and her libido burst into flame.

He planted a hand on her ass and rocked his hips to grind his cock into her. Lena moaned and kissed him back with all the passion he so easily kindled.

Restlessly, she wiggled against him. God, her breasts felt so heavy. She needed them fondled, kissed, licked and sucked. She’d love his teeth grazing her sensitive buds right now.

Breaking from her lips, he kissed a path down the point of her chin to her throat and lower to the swell of her breasts peeking out of theVof her black T-shirt.

She dug her fingers into his thick hair, holding him where she wanted him most. “Yes, Slade!”

He tore away from her, panting, one hand planted on the elevator wall next to her head. His stare pierced her. “I’m not walking away from you ever again, MJ. It’s always been the two of us and it always will be. If I need to know my woman’s safe, then—”

She plastered two fingers to his lips, cutting off his words. “Then I need to know my man is safe too.”
