I’d kill him for his willingness to think with his dick and not his brain. Giving free rein to his desire to have Arianna instead of his fear of the Don was going to cost him his life.

And I was going to enjoy taking it.

Almost as much as I was going to enjoy taking Emilio and Mina’s.

I didn’t like leaving Arianna behind, but Armarow was impenetrable, and the army of men I was leaving to secure her was more than capable of protecting her. I needed to end this whole sordid affair with her parents so we could move on with our lives.

The darkness that loomed over us since finding out that Emilio was using his children to gain footing in the Cosa Nostra had worn out its welcome. It was time to feel the fucking sunshine again.

I walked into the kitchen, sliding my hand over the slope of Arianna’s neck as she cut up strawberries for a cake and pressed my body against hers. I didn’t care if her sisters watched, I was going to give my wife a proper goodbye before going off to war. “I need to leave.”

She stiffened slightly before setting her knife down and turning to face me. Her eyes spoke thousands of words, though she didn’t allow any to cross her lips.

It would be futile to tell me to be careful or to try to convince me to stay behind while my men handled it.

I was the Don.

I was the Capo.

I was the one who would end it all tonight and solidify the power transfer I deemed fit.

Arianna wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me down, kissing me with that silent passion I could read in her eyes. My own hands wrapped around her slim waist and pulled her tighter against me, reveling in the way her body melted into my touch.

Not long ago her body’s reaction to me was the only way I could tell what she was feeling.

I had no idea what she was thinking at that time, but I knew what she was feeling.

And over time, I’ve learned to read my wife’s body language to decipher what she was thinking as well. Cementing the bond between us.

“I love you,” I spoke against her lips when she finally sank back down onto her heels and slid her hands down my chest.

“I love you, too.” She whispered, staring at the spot on my peck where her teeth had permanently branded my skin beneath my shirt. “Hurry home to us.” She finally lifted her eyes to mine. “We need you here.”

“There isn’t a force on this earth that could keep me from you now, Little One. Man or heavenly included. You are mine.”

“Yes.” She smirked but the act didn’t reach her eyes. “Go. Before my pregnancy hormones cause me to beg you for something you will not give me.”

“I’d give you the world,” I whispered against her lips. “Starting tomorrow.”

She chuckled, finally letting it bloom into a sincere act, and sighed. “I’ll hold you to that.”

“Good.” I kissed her forehead and then stepped away, “I’ll see you when it’s done.”

I nodded to her sisters who looked on from the other side of the counter and they smiled back. The youngest one, Anita, watched me with something deeper than her sister Amelia, causing the hair on my neck to stand up briefly before Molly and Matteo walked into the room, pulling me out of the trance.

“Ready?” Matteo asked as Molly skirted around him with her head tipped down.

I glanced at him and nodded to his shirt with a smirk. “You missed a button.”

He quickly noticed the undone button of his shirt and swiftly corrected it, glancing at Molly once who was staring at her feet so hard I would have worried she was asleep if not for the way her fingers wound themselves into her skirt over and over again.

“Leave them alone,” Arianna warned with a glare. “Goodbyes are hard.”

“Hmm.” I hummed, winking at her. “But hellos are so much more rewarding.” She smirked and I pushed Matteo back out the door before he tried to jump the maid one more time.

When we got into the car and headed out with the cavalry, I glanced over at him, but he wouldn’t meet my eye.

“So Molly has let you in, finally?”
