“You lying cunt,” she whispered in anger.

“I moved it.” A small voice called from the other side of the room. The maid that had been fetching my mother’s mimosa stood in the doorway, with two cocktails on her tray and a frightened look on her face.

The guards from earlier were also there, and at some point, they had moved closer to us unnoticed while my mother stalked me.

My mother turned on the poor girl, throwing daggers from her eyes. “Why would you move something that didn’t belong to you?” she snapped.

“Mr. Capasso insisted that the only food and drinks that Ms. Rosetti be served today come directly from the kitchen through me to her,” the maid said firmly, no doubt brave enough to face off with my mother because of the hundreds of pounds of muscle on each side of her.

“That’s absurd!” My mother screeched. “She is my daughter and I know what is best for her, I want her tonic back. And I want it back right now!”

“I’m sorry, Ma’am,” The maid said but held firm, even while I shook like a leaf, “Mr. Capasso instructed me as well as Saul and Dio, that if there were any issues with his order, to take it up directly with him.”

“Fine,” My mother snapped, turning back towards me with fire in her eyes. “I’ll be back, and when I return, I expect you to take your tonic without complaint.”

I nodded with wide eyes and watched as she stormed from the room before I collapsed into one of the chairs nearby.

“Miss,” the maid stepped forward, setting one glass down on the dresser and handing me another before kneeling in front of me. “Are you okay? I’m sorry if that upset you.” She was young, probably around my age, maybe a few years older. Her bright platinum blonde hair was tied back in a fancy knot at the back of her head and her eyes were crystal blue as she lifted my hand from my lap and tucked the glass between my fingers. “Drink,” She instructed. “You are pale.”

I lifted the glass to my nose and sniffed, unable to catch the hint of anything bitter or medicinal, and then took a small tentative sip. “Mmh,” I smiled at her and took another drink, “This is delicious.”

She smiled brightly at me and looked over her shoulder to the guards. Saul sank back against the wall like he could blend in with the cream-colored wallpaper in his black suit and dark features, and Dio, the other one, left the room, locking it once again from the inside on his way out.

“What is your name?” I asked the young maid as she stood up and smoothed her hands over her straight black skirt.

“Molly, Miss,” she said with a quick bow of her head. “I’ll be your new personal attendant during your time here at Armarow Estate, now and in the future. Anything you need, will go directly through me and I’ll make sure your every need and want is met.”

“What a life,” Amelia quipped from across the room with a smirk and I waved her off.

“Thank you, Molly.” I nodded back to her and took another sip of my drink, “I’m sorry you met that side of my mother,” I grimaced, “Though to be honest with you, I’m glad it was you and not me. You handled her far better than I ever have.”

She patted my shoulder and picked up the other glass, handing it to Amelia with a wink before she started straightening out clothing that my sister Anita had torn out of my closet and left in a pile. “I have only one person to answer to while inside of this estate miss,” She said with a small smile, “And after this evening’s ceremony, so will you.”

“Mr. Capasso?” I asked, ignoring the questioning looks from my sister at the mention of their soon-to-be brother-in-law.

“Yes, Miss,” Molly said hanging up the dress that Anita had requested to wear. “Mr. Capasso is in charge of everything in this area. Even over your parents when they visit after today.”

I snorted into my glass and smirked, “I don’t think they’ll be visiting me when this is all said and done.” I looked out the window behind her and once again, admired the landscape and fall colors outside. “Though I don’t feel all that torn up over it, as you can imagine.”

Molly smiled and nodded her head knowingly as she continued her task.

“Wait,” I said with a pause, “How did Mr. Capasso know about the…” I paused to think of a more appropriate name for the drugged drink but came up short, “tonic?” I shook my head, “Why did he place guards here at all?”

Molly shrugged her shoulders as she worked, “I’m not sure, Miss, he was waiting for me this morning when I was preparing for the day and gave me my instructions. Saul and Dio were already stationed outside of your door when I arrived.”

“Hmm,” I hummed and took another sip of my drink, “Interesting.”

I made my way back over to the vanity and allowed the team to resume their task of making me bridal-ready as a comfortable chatter commenced between my sisters again.

I listened to them, but my thoughts went back to last night and everything that transpired in the very room I was sitting in.

I closed my eyes and remembered the way he stared down at me with such power in his eyes. But for once, I didn’t feel fear from the power he held over me.

I remembered the way his mouth felt when he kissed me. And when he licked my breasts and my…

A blush crawled up my cheeks at the memory of him lying between my legs, pleasing me with his tongue like he had nothing else in the world to worry about at that moment.

“Are you well, Miss?” Molly asked, and I snapped my eyes open to find her standing next to the mirror with worry in her eyes.
