“I know you’re old enough to drink, Ari,” he replied, not rising to my level of snark. Which just flamed that fire in my stomach. “But you aren’t drinking anymore. Not right now anyway.”

“Why?” I snapped, glaring at him.

He turned and parted his legs around me, one along my back and the other against my knees, caging me in as he leaned forward until his face was right by mine. “Are you trying to break our truce already, Little One?” Leaning forward to lay a kiss on my parted lips. “I’ll admit, I’m kind of enjoying the perks of the truce and I’m not overly ready to have you angry with me again.”

“Then don’t try to tell me what to do like a child.”

“I’m not treating you like a child, Arianna; I’m trying to think of our unborn child,” he looked down at my stomach and then raised his eyebrow at me.

My mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water as I processed his words.

Then I started doing math in my head and realized with his sudden return to Armarow, I’d forgotten I was due for my period.

Today.

Yet I had no sign of it coming like I usually did.

“You’re panicking,” he said, sliding his hand down my back, “Tell me why.”

“You-” I shut my mouth and swallowed, “I’m not-” Shaking my head I looked away from him, unable to finish the statement, because I didn’t know anything for a fact.

“You don’t have your period. Yet according to Dr. Travis’ report, you’re due.”

“How do you know?” I snapped, letting my fear overwhelm me.

Along with the urge to smack the gentle and amused look off his face.

“Because when I slid my cock out of your body,” he lifted his wrist and looked at his watch, “no more than six hours ago, there was no evidence of it coating me.”

I blushed, sneaking a glance at Alec and then glaring at my husband. “Stop it,” I whispered.

“I will not,” Nicolas sat up straight, pulling away from my body, “I’m in my home, and my staff is paid well to ignore my conversations or at least be professional enough to keep their opinions to themselves about them.”

“Nico,” I sighed, looking at him, “I’m not pregnant.”

“How do you know?”

“I don’t feel pregnant,” I answered honestly, “Wouldn’t I feel…different?”

“I don’t know,” he said with an unlike-him shrug, “I’ve never been pregnant before.”

I rolled my eyes at his attempt at a joke and picked up the glass of water that his housekeeper had laid down with my place setting.

He turned his attention to the plate and then back to me, “Why are you sitting here for lunch?”

“Where else should I sit?”

“A table.” His eyebrows pinched over his green eyes like it was a dumb question. “One of the six available inside of this house.”

“All alone, with no one but the obnoxious wallpaper to keep me company?” I scoffed, “No thank you. I’ve spent enough of my life alone.” I nodded to the kitchen around us, “I quite enjoy Alec and Mariella’s conversation. They’re teaching me things.”

He scowled but leaned back, “Mariella,” He yelled, “A plate for me as well please.” Moments later the woman walked out of the butler’s pantry with another place setting. “What kind of things are you learning?” He asked me as she arranged his utensils and then backed away.

“Household things,” I said and then shook my head, “Why are you sitting with me?”

He scoffed, lifting his glass of water and taking a sip. My eyes watched the strong muscles in his neck work the liquid down and I caught the edge of a red scratch on the back of his neck, causing goosebumps to break out over my body.

I did that.
