And I missed my ally, my husband.

But he was returning to me tonight, I had already asked Matteo on repeat for the last forty-eight hours straight, to make sure that he was safe and everything was on track to bring him back to me.

The poor man hadn’t had a moment’s rest on board between my impulsive questioning and Molly’s tempted teasing.

Okay, to be fair, Molly wasn’t teasing him on purpose.

I, however, was facilitating the teasing as a means of entertainment because Nicolas’ second-in-command was hilarious to watch when he was lost observing Molly.

Her new uniforms were a hit, and on top of that, the bikini I finally managed to threaten her into to lay next to me on the sundeck, made the man positively vibrate with need. Even if she was so blind to it all the entire time.

“Morning, Ari,” Her sweet angelic voice called from the door to my cabin like my thoughts had beckoned her themselves. “How are you this morning?”

“Eager to get to land,” I said, curling onto my side and pulling the blankets up to my shoulders. “I’m not leaving bed until Nico is back on board.”

“Are you well?” She paused with her brows knitted worriedly.

“I’m horny,” I said plainly, enjoying the way her face reddened as she rolled her eyes. “And tired.” I yawned again for the hundredth time since waking up an hour before. “I’m getting all the rest I can today because I doubt I will be getting any tonight.”

She grinned and walked to the window, pulling the curtains open and eliciting a groan from me as I dove under the covers a millisecond too late. “Well, while I normally would encourage you to rest. I think you should spend the day above deck.”

“Why?” I asked from my cocoon.

“Because we’re traveling along the coastline today to our port and it’s a beautiful view.”

“Hmm,” I hummed, unconvinced, “I can’t wait to get back on land.”

She chuckled and flitted around my cabin, ignoring my comments meant to dissuade her task to get me out of bed. “All the better to get above deck, enjoy an omelet and some yogurt with a nice warm coffee and start the journey to your prince charming.”

“Eh,” I groaned, hating the way her description of the breakfast foods I loved made my stomach turn. “No breakfast.”

“You have to eat breakfast, Arianna,” she huffed good-heartedly, “Those were Mr. Capasso’s explicit instructions to me before he left. You have to eat every meal without fail and double your water intake so you don’t faint again.” She pulled my blankets down and I took refuge under my pillow. “If not an omelet, how about a bagel? We have that chive cream cheese you love, or I can ask Chef to whip you up some French toast or something. He only complained a little when you smeared syrup over his strawberry masterpiece last time.”

“Stop talking,” I commanded pulling my head out from under the pillow and sitting up.

“Ari,” she groaned, “Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Those were the rules.”

“Stop,” I hissed, but it was too late. Her words had permeated through my ears, into my brain, and directly into my stomach which was souring more and more by the moment. “Move!” I cried, throwing myself out of bed and running for the bathroom, throwing up in the toilet milliseconds after collapsing to my knees in front of it. There wasn’t much in my stomach at this hour, but what was left from the night before burned on its way up and out.

“Oh, dear.” Molly grabbed my hair and pulled it back off my face as another heave wracked my body, causing agony. “Easy now,” She cooed soothingly as the heaves lessened and then stopped completely, leaving me tired and worn out. “Let’s get you cleaned up.”

I stood up and made it to the sink and buried my face under the cool water, rinsing my mouth out. When I stood back up and patted my skin dry Molly was standing next to me with her hand held out expectantly.

“What?” I looked away from her reflection in the mirror and down to her hand, seeing the plastic-wrapped pregnancy test she had given to me over a week ago when Dr. Travis stopped to check to see if Nicolas had been successful in his task to breed me.

“You still haven’t gotten your period, and now you’re puking from the mere mention of food. You’ve slept nearly the entire time that Nicolas has been gone and I think it’s time to face the music.” She tilted her head as I simply stared at her.

“But I had cramps,” I whispered defensively.

“While thosearea sign of your menstrual cycle, they’re also a sign of early pregnancy.” She set the test down on the counter and turned me to face her, “And besides, wouldn’t you rather know for sure before your husband rejoins you tonight?”

“Ugh,” I groaned, throwing my head back in defeat. “I feel like my entire life has revolved around the possibility of a fetus growing inside of me for weeks now.”

“Then find out for sure, and you won’t have to worry anymore.”

“Or worrying is all I’ll do ever again,” I countered, grabbing the test and taking it to the toilet.

Molly shrugged her shoulders and smirked, “I hear that never ends either.”
