“Ditto.” He sighed, with a smirk on his lips. “I think I’m going to tattoo your dental impression on my chest so you have somewhere to aim those pretty teeth when I’m on top of you like that.”

“Hmm.” I mused, tracing the mark with my fingertip. “How romantic.”

He snorted and spanked my ass before pulling me off his cock. “Let’s get cleaned up and go eat. Cher said you planned the entire meal with Chef for this evening.”

I blushed, rolling off of him to stand as he rose. The silky feeling between my thighs made me want to grind against his hard body for the next three days, but I refrained, getting excited for him to see the meal I planned. “I did.” I shrugged, feigning indifference. “I figured I’d better start contributing to something around here before you get bored of me and toss me overboard.”

“Ha.” He smirked, sitting up on the edge of the bed and pulling me forward between his long legs. “You’re doing so much more than you know, by simply existing.”

“What does that mean?” I whispered, trying to keep my heartbeat steady as my body wanted to run away with his romantic words and let them mean something more than they did.

“Maybe someday I’ll tell you.” He winked, and I rolled my eyes, hating his usual answer when I asked him to clarify his words.

“Maybe.” I groaned, turning and walking to the bathroom to clean up. “Someday.”

“Thiswasdelicious.”Nicosighed, leaning back in his chair with a glass of wine in his fingers as he watched me. We sat at a small table not usually used for dinnertime dining, but the intimacy of it felt right.

He touched me in some way, during the entire meal. Sometimes it was his fingers along my bare knee under the table, or against my neck as he brushed my hair over my shoulder. If he wasn’t physically touching me, his eyes would caress me over the candlelight.

“How did your business go while you were away?” I asked, twirling my glass of sparkling water in my fingers like he was.

“It went,” he hesitated, dropping my gaze, “as well as it could have.”

“That sounded evasive,” I raised an eyebrow at him, challenging him for more information.

He smirked at me and took a sip of his wine. “You won’t like the full answer if I give it to you.”

“Why?”

“Because I did something I’m not proud of, but it was necessary.”

Dread filled my stomach as I pondered what he meant. “Did it involve another woman?” I asked quietly, dropping his gaze as I prepared for the answer.

He leaned forward, tipping my chin up with his fingers until I met his stare again. “No, Arianna. It didn’t.”

I swallowed and forced air into my lungs that I had been unable to until he answered me. “Then tell me what happened.”

His mouth opened, but the doors to the room slid open, and he closed his lips turning to the interruption.

“What is it?” Nico asked Matteo as the door closed behind him soundlessly.

Matteo looked over at me with a polite nod, before leaning down to Nico’s side and whispering to him. Nico’s eyes found mine as his second stood back up, before he nodded, taking a sip of his wine.

“I’ll be right there,” Nico told him and Matteo backed up, giving me a slight smile before walking back out of the room.

“What’s going on?” I questioned, hating that they had some sort of conversation right in front of me, without including me in it.

“I don’t know yet,” he said, standing up and leaning down over me, making me tilt my head way back to look at him. He lowered his lips to mine chastely. “Go to the aft salon, I’ll be there momentarily.”

“Why-?” I asked but he shook his head.

“Just do as you’re told, Arianna,” He took a deep breath and sighed, “Please.”

“Fine.” I rose from my seat, discarding my napkin on the table, and walked from the room without a backward glance.

Something was wrong, but he still didn’t trust me enough to share it with me.

When I got to the salon, Molly walked in with a shawl for my arms. “What’s happening?” I asked, knowing she would have more information than I did.
