When Andy just stared at it with more suspicion, Luke grabbed the dress, shoved it at her, and jabbed a finger towards the nearest changing room. “We’re on a timetable.”

That got her going. Disappearing into the stall, Andy yanked the curtain closed, and, once again, Luke found himself listening to the soft rustle of her stripping down.

She was curiously silent this time around. That is, until Luke detected an irritated snort.

Aylen must have heard it too because she was quick to come over, more dresses piled in her arms. “If it’s the wrong size, just let me know what you need.”

Andy swept the curtain aside, and Luke nearly choked on his tongue.

The dress was definitely not the wrong size; it fit Andy perfectly. Too fucking perfectly. Luke was positive every motherfucker in the club would be salivating over her in the curve-hugging dress that revealed way more of her legs than it concealed.

Luke’s gaze slid up the shimmery ensemble to find Andy frowning in annoyance. Surely, the woman couldn’t find fault with the dress. It looked sensational on her. “You don’t like it?”

“Well, it’s pretty.” Her nose wrinkled as she yanked at the short sleeves capping her shoulders. “But really itchy. Whoever designed it did a terrible job lining it for this type of fabric.”

Beside him, Aylen tensed. “That would be my mother.”

They followed her gaze to an open door at the rear of the store, where an older woman sat working at a table with a sewing machine. Like Aylen, Suni had long black hair, although hers was peppered with gray and braided in a thick plait that showed off the tribal jewelry decorating her ears.

“Oh, s-sorry,” Andy stammered, cheeks growing red. “The cut of the dress is very nice. I just wish there was a bit more of the slip part.” She glanced down, voice dropping to a mumble. “Some people have sensory processing disorder, you know.”

“Of course,” Aylen said smoothly, offering another pleasant customer service smile. “I’ll be sure to pass along the feedback.”

“I’ll take those,” Luke said before the situation could get any more awkward. “Thanks for the help.”

Aylen transferred her bundle to Luke. “Sure. Let me know if you need anything else.” She strode off to help another guest.

Andy shut herself back inside the changing room.

Luke sighed. “Bird?”

Total silence.

“Andy?”

More silence.

“Andalise?”

“I offended her.”

The sad whisper tugged at Luke’s heart and pulled another sigh from his throat. “She’s a big girl, Andy, and she works at an apparel store. I’m sure she’s dealt with far pickier chicks than you.”

“I didn’t mean to be rude.”

“I know.” Luke rifled through the stack in his hands, then passed a handful of soft, stretchy mini dresses over the curtain. “You can make it up to her by spending a ridiculous amount of money for a small amount of fabric.”

Another snort and a minute of rustling later, the curtain opened again.

This time Andy smiled tentatively as she smoothed at a sleeveless black mini. “This one feels better. I like it. What do you think?”

That motherfuckers were gonna be all over her at the club. That she might have another one of those grabby-hand surprises on the dance floor. And that Kyle better be fucking on it with his security detail.

Damn it, maybe Lukeshouldgo to the club tonight. Just to be sure.

“You’re frowning. You don’t like it?”

So not the case.
