Andy let slip an excited squeak. “See, you’re helping me already.”

“Your definition of help is fucked. Never let a man insult you like that without dishing it back to him ten-motherfucking-fold.”

“Ten-motherfreaking-fold,” she said studiously. “Got it.”

Luke gave another exasperated snort. The kind that usually signaled capitulation.

Andy widened her eyes imploringly. The look usually worked on her parents.

“Damn it. Don’t do that to me.” He swallowed, seemingly unable to tear his gaze from her. Nor could she him, for that matter. As butterflies took flight in her belly, she was glued to those hazel eyes of his. And for once in her life, she rather enjoyed this form of social interaction.

“Please,” she whispered.

Luke’s chest rose and fell — once, twice, three times — as he stared down at her. “God damn those eyes are lethal. You could have asked me to watch thatDowntowncrap with you, and I’d have agreed.”

“I preferWitcher.”

“Thank fuck.”

Andy giggled, unable to control her burgeoning excitement. “Then you’ll do it?” she all but shrieked.

“Alright already! Yes, I’ll help you.” He jabbed a finger at the forgotten broom in her hand. “But you better not shirk on your responsibilities here at the shop in between all our…” He cast his gaze about.

“Him lessons?” Andy supplied helpfully.

“That’s a stupid name, but sure.”

Her face fell. “I thought it was clever.”

“Lesson One,” Luke barked, “Kyle isn’t interested in a doormat. Give it back tenfold, Little Bird. Ten-motherfucking-fold!”

“Right.” Andy squared her shoulders. “It’s an absolutely brilliant name, Luke.” Slowing her speech like she was conversing with a toddler, she smiled sweetly. “It’s what we call in literary terms a play on words.Him lessonsandswim lessons.Get it, dumb-ass?”

Luke lifted his chin. “Better.”

Andy beamed.

“But you’ve much to learn.”

“Oh, I will. I’ll be the best student ever. I promise.” Andy swept up a pile of sand as she chattered happily. “This is going to work out so well, I can feel it. Maybe when Kyle and I get together, we can go on a double date with you and Casey.”

“Who in the ever-loving fuck is Casey?”

“The chick from Dallas that slipped you her number last week.”

“Oh. Her.”

“Yeah, she seemed quite taken with you.”

Luke yawned.

Andy glanced up from her task. “I think she wanted…you know. S-e-x.”

“You fucking with me right now?”

“Maybe,” she teased.

He looked away, muttering something that sounded an awful lot like, “You’re notthatbad at flirting.”
