Mary shook her head. “You know that bikini she’s wearing is Dolce and Gabbana?”

“Nope.”

Mary laughed. “Come on. Let’s pick out that wetsuit for you.”

“Do we have to?”

“Yes. According to my brother, someoneis learning to surf.”

Andy flushed as she returned the board to the rack.

Mary snorted behind her. “Oh, come on now. I knew it was only a matter of time before you’d get your toes wet.” Striding over to the apparel racks, she gathered a stack of wetsuits and bikinis, handing them to Andy. “Now scoot. We need to take advantage of this lull.”

Andy stepped into a small, curtained changing room and set her bundle on a bench. Frowning at the cheeky two-piece at the top of the stack, she cast it aside. Exposed buns so wasn’t happening.

But maybe the turquoise set could work. Stripping down, she tugged the briefs on and smiled at the perfect fit. Mary had a good eye. High-cut like Andy’s old one-piece, they were made of an ultra-soft microfiber fabric that was really comfortable.

Next, Andy donned the matching top, which was something like a sports bra but with a deep-plunging V and — thank god — no pokey wires lining the cups. Andy took a twirl before the mirror. Wow! She looked pretty good, actually.

“Out! Let’s see it!”

She pulled the curtain back.

“Oooh, foxy lady!” Mary drawled.

Andy palmed her cheeks, which were lifted in a goofy grin. “Do we have this in other colors? I want them all. No wait! How much is this one?”

“Sixty dollars.”

“Right. Just the one for now.”

Mary smirked. “Try on a wetsuit with it.”

Not bothering to close the curtain, Andy snatched up a long black suit, unzipped, and stepped into it. The fit was really tight about her legs. Andy frowned. She liked compression, but this was like squeezing into a sausage-casing.

“Nope,” Mary said, rejecting it for her. “Try the navy one with the flower pattern on the thighs.”

Andy switched up suits and immediately smiled. This one was much better. Just the right amount of snug.

Mary seemed to agree as she inspected the fit. “Wow, it’s so nice to see an hourglass again.” She patted her bulging belly forlornly. “Frankie, you need to get out already.”

Frankie gave an answering kick.

“No you don’t,” Andy said quickly to the bump.

Mary giggled. “Okay, let’s see the rest.”

“Why? I already have what I need.”

Mary pointed to the stack. “Fashion show, girl. I need to live vicariously.”

“Fine.” Andy tried on the rest, showing off each look with a silly flourish of her arms, and it was just as she’d zipped up a sleek gray surf jacket that there was a tinkle from the front of the store.

“I’ll take care of that,” Mary said. “You finish up here.”

“Okay.” Andy glanced at herself in the mirror. She probably shouldn’t splurge on the jacket. But with its pretty turquoise accents, it perfectly matched her bikini bottoms. And it made her feel confident.Powerfuleven.Like maybe she really could do this surfing thing.

Like maybe she was meant to.
