“Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow?”

“You bet.” He pulled her in and kissed her head. “I’m proud of you, Bel.”

“Yeah, yeah, I’m wonderful. Now get out of here.” Bella gave him a playful shove.

“Night, Sia.”

“Night.” I offered Matteo a smile.

“Make sure this one gets home okay.”

“I will.”

Technically, Jay and Tristan would but I wasn’t going to get into the semantics.

“Tonight has been a good night,” Bella hugged me again, although part of me wondered if she was using me as a leaning post.

“It has.” I smiled.

“You didn’t get your first kiss though.”

“There’s always next time.” Strained laughter bubbled out of me.

For a second, outside under the gazebo, I’d thought Tristan might kiss me. I’d imagined it enough times, his lips touching mine, his hands in my hair, his strong body pressed up against me.

Did he think of me?

Is that why he avoided me?

“Sia?” Bella tugged on my arm and I slid my gaze back to her.

“I think I’m going to puke.” Bella tore away from me and all but ran toward the restrooms.

I went after her, hardly surprised when Tristan caught up to me, gently grasping my arm. “What’s wrong with her?”

“She drank too much.”

“Fuck,” he breathed, scrubbing the hint of his five o’clock shadow. “Okay, I’ll tell Jay to fetch the car around and we’ll get her home. Then Jay can take you—”

“I’m staying at her house tonight.”

His jaw clenched.

“If it’s a problem, Jay can take us,” I snapped, surprising us both. But his hot and cold mood swings were giving me whiplash.

“I’m quite capable of doing my job, Principessa.”

My eyes narrowed, as I yanked my arm away from him. “Good, we shouldn’t have a problem then. Should we?” I stormed off after Bella, ignoring Tristan as he called after me.

CHAPTER4

TRISTAN

Alessia Marchetti was going to be the slow tortured death of me.

That dress.

Her unblemished skin.
