They were coming to watch the second game against Detroit U, but he didn’t always travel well with Mom, so I’d arranged to go get them and then booked them into a hotel after the game so they could spend some time in Lakeshore with me.

It was a lot, but I knew it would be worth it to see his face when the puck dropped and the game started.

“Drinks at TPB? We’ve been neglecting that place,” Noah said.

“Are the girls—”

“They have dinner plans. They’ll probably join us after.”

If Harper turned up with them, I could be long gone before then.

“Why?”

“No reason,” I said as we filed off the ice and down the narrow aisle leading to the locker room.

“You sure about that?” he called after me.

I could have ignored him. Could have taken the high road and not fed into his suspicions about Harper and me. But pride got the better of me, and instead, I flipped him off over my shoulder.

His laughter followed me all the way into the locker room.

The Penalty Box was standing room only by the time we arrived. Thankfully, Stu usually kept a couple of tables free for the team, so we managed to grab a seat.

“Get a load of that,” Leon whistled through his teeth as he raked his eyes over a group of half-naked bunnies.

“I wonder if Jessica Rabbit will want to soothe my bruises.” He smirked, giving the busty redhead another once over.

“Please don’t start with the bunny scale shit tonight. Especially if Rory comes around.” Noah cast him a disapproving look.

The bunny scale was some stupid frat boy shit that we all had a bad habit of using now and again. It was locker room talk mostly, but it had gotten personal for Noah when Abel Adams called Rory a chubby bunny, and Noah lost his shit.

“But Rory isn’t here right now,” Leon argued. “And this place is full to the brim with bunnies ripe for the—”

“Seriously, rookie. Keep it up, and I’ll revoke your pass to sit with the cool kids.”

“That’s your comeback? I love Aurora, bro, but she’s turned you fucking soft.”

“One day, you’ll get it.” Noah shrugged, accepting a cold bottle of Heineken from Austin. “Thanks, man.”

“Get what?” he asked, sliding onto a seat.

“The fact that since Noah started banging your sis—” Austin pinned him with a look darker than hell itself, and Leon held up his hands. “Fine. Since he started making sweet love to your sister, the guy has turned into a walking, talking vagina.”

“What can I say? I’m a changed man. I would choose Rory over you, assholes, every day of the week.”

“Right answer,” Austin grumbled, clinking his bottle against Noah’s.

“You couldn’t have picked a chick with a few more single friends to— uh, Holden? Why is your girlfriend here? Didn’t you say she had dinner plans?”

We all turned and looked over at the door. Sure enough, Aurora and Ella stood there, and with them was none other than Harper.

There went my plans to enjoy a couple of beers with my friends before heading home to get some sleep.

They made their way over, but I noticed Harper lingered behind.

“Where’s Dayna?” Aiden asked.
