“Doing what?” He frowned.

“You know, like should I go in first, then ten minutes later, you can come in and pretend to be a delivery guy or something. Do you have a ball cap you can wear—”

“You want me to pretend to be…?”

“A delivery guy.” I nodded, realizing how ridiculous I sounded.

But the truth was, I was nervous.

Mason had laid it all out for me. He wanted this.

Me.

And it was all I’d wanted… but never actually expected because I didn’t get the guy.

I didn’t.

“Yeah, not going to happen.” Mason shouldered the door and climbed out of his car, coming around to my side. He yanked open the door and looked down at me. “Let’s go.”

“But what if someone’s up? What if they—”

Mason reached in and lifted me out of the seat onto my feet. “We’re not doing that.”

“Doing what?”

“Playing games. Hiding this. Pretending…” He hooked his arm around my back and pulled me close. My hand went to his chest as I gazed up at him, still a little dumbstruck that this was happening.

“In case I didn’t make it clear enough back at the rink when my fingers were deep inside you. You’re mine, Harper. I don’t give a fuck who knows it.”

“I…”

All I could do was nod.

Mason chuckled, dropping a kiss on my head before pushing the door shut behind me and locking the car. Hand in hand, we walked toward my building. It was late, and the place seeped in darkness, but that didn’t mean there weren’t prying eyes everywhere.

When we reached the door, I glanced up at Mason, and he cocked a brow. “So just to confirm. We’re really doing this?” I asked.

“Open the door, Harper.”

“Bossy.” I rolled my eyes playfully despite the butterflies fluttering wildly in my stomach.

He made me nervous because this was all so new. And if Natalie got wind of things…

I didn’t even want to think about that.

But he was right. I had nothing to hide.

Inhaling a steady breath, I opened the door, and we slipped inside. Mason kept his fingers tucked in the belt loop of my jeans. It was so intimate and cute. I couldn’t help but swoon.

Who knew Mason Steele could be such a sweetheart.

“I’m on the—”

“Second floor,” he said. “I remember.”

“I never properly thanked you for the hangover supplies, did I?”

“It’s okay. You can thank me later.” I heard the smirk in his voice but didn’t glance back at him because I was pretty sure my cheeks were on fire.
