SB: Harper’s your girlfriend?

MB: Would that be okay?

SB: I think so. I like Harper a lot. Are you going to get married? Can I be your best man? We could get a dog and it could be the ring bearer. I’ve always wanted a dog. A small one like a wiener or Pomeranian. Not a big one. They scare me.

Laughter rumbled in my chest, and it hit me that nothing about anything my brother had just said scared me.

I glanced at the sleeping girl beside me, and my heart slammed against my rib cage like a freight train. It was hard to believe how quickly I’d fallen under her spell. But here I was. So fucking gone for her.

“Tell Scottie I said good morning,” she murmured.

“He’s twelve. I am not telling him that.”

Harper’s eyes fluttered open, and she smiled up at me. “Pretty sure you knew what sex was at twelve.”

“At twelve, my favorite pastime was jerkin’ the gherkin.”

“Oh my God.” She exploded with laughter, clutching the pillow tightly. “You did not just say that.”

“What?” I tried to keep a straight face. “It’s true.”

“Not so hard to believe Scottie will be having those same urges then.”

“No. No fucking way. He’s still a kid.”

“He’s almost thirteen.”

“It’s different. He doesn’t understand—”

“Mase, he’s still a teenage boy. His body will get it even if he doesn’t quite understand it.”

Shit. She was right.

“He’s growing up,” I said, but it was laced with trepidation. Life wasn’t going to be easy for him. Friendships. Relationships. The big scary world. But Harper was right. It was happening whether I liked it or not.

“Yeah, he is. And he’s so lucky to have a big brother to talk to.” She rolled onto her stomach and laid her hand on my chest, sending a lick of heat through me. “Especially one who cares so much about him.”

“Still, not sure he needs to know that I spent all night between your thighs.”

“It wasn’tallnight.” A coy smile tugged at her lips.

“Are you saying you weren’t satisfied? Because we can fix that.”

“Hold that thought.” She leaned up and pressed a kiss to my mouth. “I need to pee.”

Harper clambered off the bed and disappeared into her small en suite. But the second I heard the tap run, an idea came over me.

Getting up, I headed for the door and knocked.

“I’ll be out in a minute,” she called.

“Actually,” I said, slipping inside. “I think we should probably stay right here.”

“Mason, what—”

I leaned around her and reached into the shower, turning the water on. It would be a tight squeeze, but it didn’t really matter, given that I intended on being deep inside her in the next two minutes.

“Shirt off,” I said, tugging the hem of my t-shirt, the one she’d borrowed that first night we were together.
