“Fucking pussy,” Mason muttered, shaking his head. But when his gaze snagged on mine, his expression softened, and I wondered if he was remembering the night he’d looked after me.

“This is nice,” I said. “Thanks for making me come.”

“I’m just happy Mase pulled his head out of his ass.” Noah tipped his bottle in our direction. “She’s good for you.”

“Yeah”—Mason gazed down at me—“she is.”

“But are we going to address the elephant in the room?”

“Holden…”

“Coach D—”

“I’ll tell him as soon as he’s back at practice.”

“Maybe I should talk to him?” I suggested. I didn’t want things to go south for Mason because of me. Because my father resented and blamed me.

“No,” Mason said. “I said I’ll handle it, and I will.”

“Okay.”

Just then, a group of rowdy people entered the bar, and a familiar voice made me look over at the door.

“Noah, what did you do?” Rory directed her accusatory gaze at him.

“I… may have mentioned to Connor that we were here.” He shrugged, mouthing to me, “Sorry.”

“It’s fine. I guess they’ll all know soon enough.”

“Relax,” Mason said, squeezing the back of my neck. “They’re my friends. Our friends.”

“I know. It’s just a lot all at once.”

I’d barely had time to get my head around everything, and now we were about to out ourselves to half the team.

“Lovers,” Connor strolled up to the booth, shoving his way to the end on Noah and Rory’s side. “Isn’t this cozy.”

“Don’t be an ass, Con,” Rory said.

“Sorry, Rory, baby. I’m only busting Mase’s balls. I see you two figured your shit out.”

“Don’t start,” Mason murmured.

“Relax, I’m happy for you. Even if she’s way out of your league.” Connor winked at me, pulling Ella down onto his knee.

“Hi, guys,” Dayna said. “Sorry to gate-crash. Noah said—”

“It’s fine,” Mason replied, dragging me further along the banquette so we could let her and Aiden sit down.

“So you two are what exactly?” Aiden asked.

“What do you think they are, Cap?” Noah tsked. “Joined the dark side, didn’t he?”

“About fucking time, too,” Connor added, fist-bumping Noah.

“You guys are so weird.” Ella rolled her eyes.

“How are things with your Dad?” I asked Dayna.
