There were days when I still couldn’t believe it.
“Do you want to skate?” Mason asked me.
“Maybe later.”
I was more than content just sitting here, taking it all in.
He checked his cell phone again, and I frowned. “Expecting a call?”
“I…”
“Mason?” I twisted around to look at him a little closer.
“So I might have—”
“Mind if we join you?”
“Rory?” My head whipped around. “What are you doing here?”
“Surprise,” she beamed.
“Hey, Dixie, looking good.”
“I thought I told you not to call me that.” I glowered at Noah.
He, Connor, and the rest of the guys thought it was hilarious to adopt Chad’s nickname for me. I, on the other hand, didn’t feel so great about it.
“Oh, come on, you love it.” He grinned, holding out his hand to Mason. “You’re looking good too, bro.”
“Fucking idiot,” Mason tsked, and we all laughed.
“I still don’t get it. You’re here. I thought you were staying in Lakeshore.”
“We are.” Rory and Noah sat down on the double bench beside us. “But we thought we’d come surprise you.”
“Mom invited them to spend a few nights,” Mason said. “But I wanted to surprise you.”
“As an early Christmas present, we’ve booked you girls into a spa for the day,” Noah added. “While Mase and I take little bro skating.”
“That’s… thank you.” I kissed Mason, soft and lingering. Noah cleared his throat, a smug smile plastered on his face.
Mason flipped him off, demanding one more kiss.
“Sorry,” I said, cheeks burning. “We get carried away sometimes.”
“I know that feeling.” Aurora flashed me a small, knowing smile.
“Have you talked to Ella?” I asked her, and her expression dropped.
“She’s holding it together for Connor. But I know she’s crushed. It’s his dream. All he’s ever wanted, and now—”
“Positive thoughts only, shortcake.” Noah wrapped his arm around Rory, and she laid her head on his shoulder. “If anyone can be back on the ice in time for the Frozen Four, it’s Con.”
