“Sorry, Con. But Harper has to get back for her shift at Millers.”

“Millers’ Bar and Grill?” Connor asked, and Harper nodded.

“That’s the one. I picked up some late shifts. I’m a night owl, and the extra money helps.”

“Nice, but it doesn’t mean you can’t stay, Rory, baby,” he pouted, laying it on thick.

“Another time. Come on,” she said to Harper, who followed her up.

“Thanks for the hot dog.” Harper smiled at him before turning her gaze in Noah’s direction. “Hopefully, I’ll see you around.”

“Uh, sure,” he murmured.

And something about their entire exchange bothered me.

The girls disappeared into the house, and Austin whistled under his breath. “Jesus, she’s hot.”

“She’s fucking annoying,” I said.

“You’re just pissed she only had eyes for Holden.” Connor smirked.

“Fuck that.”

He was wrong.

So wrong.

“She’s not my type,” I said. “I like girls who are less… whatever the fuck that was.”

I didn’t like the way he was looking at me—all smug and secretive.

As if he knew something I didn’t.

Didn’t matter though. Whatever he thought he knew—he was wrong. Harper was the kind of girl you avoided, especially if you wanted a drama-free life.

And I didn’t just want that; I needed it.

So I ate my hot dog, drank my beer, and pushed all thoughts of Rory’s new friend out of my head.

I had no place in my life for a girl.

Especially one like Harper Dixon.

CHAPTER1

MASON

“Good game, my man.”Stu, the bartender, held out his hand, and I slapped my palm against his.

“Thanks.”

“Looked a little hairy out there for a second.”

No shit.

The puck hadn’t even dropped, and some of our players were ready to throw down with the Fitton U Falcons.

But that’s what happened when players lost their fucking minds over a girl.
