And it didn’t take a genius to figure out what she wanted—or was offering—tonight.

“Good for you, Tasmin,” I said with a dismissive smirk. “I’m headed over to my friends, but maybe I’ll see you around later.” I went to move past her, but she grabbed my arm.

“Or we could get out of here? My roommate is away for the night, so my place is free.”

Alarm bells started ringing in my head. I knew how this proposition ended, with me at her place, her trying to take a bunch of selfies for her socials with the hashtag ‘Laid by a Laker.’

It was a thing some of the puck bunnies liked to do. But unlike a lot of the guys on the team, I had zero interest in being someone’s claim to Laker fame.

“Not tonight, Tania.”

“Tasmin.” Her expression soured, but she quickly pasted on another soft smile. “I’ll make it worth your while.”

“I’m sure you will.” My mouth twitched. “But my answer is still no.”

I shoved past her and kept walking, thinking my beer wasn’t going to cut it if I was going to survive the bunnies tonight.

“Mase—”

“Seriously,” I whirled on the girl. “What part of no don’t you— Harper?” My brows crinkled.

She was the last person I expected to see.

“Hey.” Harper Dixon, the girl I’d tried really fucking hard to avoid ever since Rory introduced her to the guys at Hot Dog Tuesday a few weeks ago, smiled up at me. “Great game tonight.”

“Thanks. If you’re looking for Rory, she’s over there.” I motioned to where my best friend had his tongue shoved down her friend’s throat.

“Actually, I was looking for you.”

“Me?” My frown grew. I just wanted to have a drink with my friends and celebrate our win.

I didn’t have time for this shit.

“Yeah. I… uh, so I was thinking we should hang out sometime.”

“Sorry, what?” Strangled laughter spilled out of me because there was no fucking way. “Is this a joke? Did Holden put you up to this?”

“Why would Noah—”

“You’re not joking?” I balked, trying to rack my brain for the part where she thought the two of us hanging out was a good idea.

We’d had very little interaction since our first meeting at Noah’s house, where it was clear we rubbed each other the wrong way.

Her expression dropped, the air turning thick around us. “No, I just thought that maybe we could hang out since our best friends are together now.”

“Why the fuck would we do that?”

Harper was… well, she was annoying as fuck. Easy on the eyes, sure, with all that long glossy blonde hair, baby blue eyes, and delicate features. But she was one ofthosegirls. The ones who claimed to love hockey to impress guys. Add in her sharp tongue and over-the-top confidence, and she was everything I couldn’t stand in the fairer sex.

“I thought it would be a nice thing to do.” She gave a little shrug.

“Are you fucking delusional?”

“I… no, I just thought…”

“You thought wrong, blondie. Just because Holden is banging your friend doesn’t mean I want anything to do with you. In fact, I think it would be better if you stay away from me.”

Dejection glittered in her eyes as she tried to formulate a comeback. But I didn’t give her the chance.
