“Does it look like he’s good?” Ella snapped. “He can barely stand. What the hell did Cutler put in those shots?”

“Zombie brains,” Connor slurred. “With extra brains.”

“So much for rocking my world tonight.” Ella rolled her eyes.

“Give me ten minutes and a gallon of water, and we’ll be good to go.” He grabbed his junk.

“Okay, mister, party’s over. I’m taking you home.”

“Stay here,” I said. “You can take the spare room.”

“The sex pit?” Her face wrinkled with disgust. “No thanks, I know what goes on in—”

“Relax. It’s off-limits for… that. I swear. There are fresh sheets on the bed and everything. You’ll be fine in there.”

“Beats carrying his big ass all the way home,” Noah added.

“Fine. But if anyone tries to get in, I will cut a bitch.”

“Jesus, you’re scary when you’re pissed.”

“And while you’re at it, tell Cutler he should watch his back for getting my boyfriend wasted before eleven.”

“Come on, let’s get him upstairs,” Noah took Connor’s weight, earning himself a Connor bear hug.

“Good luck,” I said, lifting my beer to them.

“Asshole,” Noah shook his head, but I saw the humor there.

After they’d wrangled Connor inside, I stayed behind. I wasn’t feeling it tonight. Knowing she was in there somewhere really put a dampener on my mood.

I didn’t ever get stuck on a girl, not like this. I liked to keep things simple. Complication-free. But I couldn’t stop thinking about her.

Maybe Connor had a point.

Maybe the only way to get over this weird infatuation was to fuck her out of my system.

One night. No strings. A chance to break whatever spell she’d put on me. To put it to bed—literally—and move the fuck on.

But Harper wouldn’t be down for that.

She wouldn’t—

“Oh, sorry.” That voice drifted over me, electrifying every nerve ending in my body. “I didn’t realize you were out here.”

Fuck, she looked incredible.

My eyes ate up every inch of her. The dip of her hips and the soft curve of her waist are accentuated by the tight red and black corset-style jacket. I could imagine spanning my hands around her body, laying her out, and—

“I’ll just go,” she rushed out, turning to get away from me.

“Wait.” I stood. Drawn to her. Unable to fight the tug I felt deep in my stomach.

“Mason?” Her eyes grew big as I stalked closer, the air thinning around us with every step, my heart in my fucking throat. “What are you—”

“Shh.” I pressed a finger to her pouty lips, something strange and unfamiliar swelling in my chest as she gazed up at me with lust-drunk eyes. “One night.”

“W-what?”
