“He wanted me to know what it felt like without the power high.”

“Okay, swoon. He definitely likes you. A lot.” She sits opposite me and leans on the table. “I bet he’s a good kisser. Was it good?”

I nod my head, my stomach still fluttering. “It was.”

Tanya walks in, spots us, and sits down. John holds their daughter as he takes over the cooking while we all sit and catch up.

“So, the king has a thing for you. He’s very protective, that’s for sure,” Tanya says, reaching for the bowl in the middle of the table, picking up a delicious red apple, then biting a chunk. “No more you and Death, then?” she asks. “Do you really just get over someone like him? I mean, your king is handsome and all, but Death?” She rolls her eyes and sits back, biting her apple.

Tanya was always known as the quiet one of the three of us, but it seems she has come out of her shell a little more. She was never quiet with us growing up, only with others, but I can see a change in her now. I think it’s for the better, and I have a feeling it’s all to do with what happened with Veronica. She may not want to appear weak or to be used again.

The thing is, Tanya isn’t weak. Her powers just aren’t as strong as mine and Tatiana’s. But now she has Melvon—a very weird coupling, I’m not going to lie—and it seems to work.

“Tanya,” I say, ignoring the question.

“Hmm…”

“Does Melvon feed from you?” I ask, wondering where he would eat. Wolves and vampires don’t really mix well, so I’m surprised he’s still here.

She blushes.

“He feeds from me.” She pulls her top down to reveal bite marks at the top of her breast. I’m sure my face morphs into awhat the fucklook because she quickly hides it. “I enjoy it, and it’s something both of us agreed to. He didn’t want to at first because he was too afraid it would hurt me.” She bites her lip. “It doesn’t… it makes me horny.”

John coughs from the cooking area, and Tanya blushes.

“What if he took too much? Vampires get addicted.”

“He doesn’t. He’s so careful, Talia. You don’t know him like I do. He’s careful with me.”

“But he is a vampire.”

“I’ve had these conversations with her already,” Tatiana says. “She is safe with him, believe it or not. He protects her. And that’s not from a spell, he just does it. We weren’t aware vampires could feel like we do. But Melvon proves they can.”

“He’s good to me,” she says again, and I reach for her hand.

“I’m glad.” I give it a squeeze and pull back.

“Is Max good for you? Or Death?” Tanya asks. “I feel like you may have to work that out.”

“I saw Grim. I told him not to come back again.” Biting my lip, I lay my head on the table. “And Max… well, Max has his own issues he needs to deal with. Like a whole new world and a crazy, possessive girlfriend or wannabe girlfriend, I’m not really sure which,” I add, shrugging my shoulders.

“I invited him in for dinner,” John says, pulling my attention to him. “It’s smart to be in good standing with someone new, and I can smell the power radiating from him." He pauses, then asks me, “What is he?”

I feel all eyes on me, waiting for an answer.

How do I tell them?

ShouldI tell them?

It’s not my place, but they are my family, and I have never kept secrets before, apart from Grim. But that situation was different.

“He is part Angel and part demon,” I announce.

“And I’m part demon,” I say as I look at Tatiana. “You knew this already, didn’t you?” She nods, and her eyes glance to the diary on the counter.

“The copy I had didn’t say who your father was, just that you were part demon. The original diary might tell us more.” She looks back at me. “Have you read it?

“No. Max has ideas, though.”
