I don’t bother replying to that, and he sits back down and picks up his phone.

“When are you leaving?” I ask after a few silent minutes.

“Once Zuko has hunted his prey.” He smirks, and the twinkle in his eye tells me he is one fucked-up son of a bitch. “Sometimes, he likes to play with them a little longer than necessary.”

Jesus!A shiver breaks over me at his words.

TWENTY-FIVE

Zuko

Sarah isn’tthe smartest bitch in the world, that’s for sure, but I didn’t think she would be hard to find.

When I do find her, she’s sitting at a restaurant with the manager of the bar, Jeff. She leans in and reaches for his hand, gripping it. He smiles at her, and I wonder…No.He wouldn’t bethatstupid.

Stepping up to me, the server takes one look and walks the other way. I make my way over to them, stopping when I reach their table. Jeff’s head tilts up when he senses someone next to him, and surprise is written all over his face when he sees me.

“Zuko.”

I nod to him and turn my focus to Sarah, who bites her lip as she avoids eye contact with me.

“Can I join you?” I ask, but I don’t wait for a reply as I pull out a chair and sit directly between them at the table. They are sitting opposite each other, and Sarah pulls her hand back and tucks it in her lap.

“How are you?” Jeff asks.

“Good. Actually, I just came from Alaska’s.”

Sarah tenses at my words and I don’t miss her body language, but I keep my eyes on Jeff.

“Oh, yes, how is she?” he asks. “I tried checking the cameras to find out who attacked her, and all I could see was someone wearing a black hoodie.” He shakes his head.

“She’s fine, resting at her place at the moment. Seems she got an unexpected visitor.”

Jeff looks at me, confused.

“Was the attack personal, you think? I mean, you do that stuff, right? Find people?”

“I do. Not many people have evaded me… Actually none.” I turn and look at Sarah while she chews on her bottom lip.

“Would you mind getting me a coffee, Jeff?” He stands without a second thought, pushing his seat back and walking over to the counter.

“Is she okay?” she asks, but there is no concern in her voice whatsoever.

“She will be,” I answer. Leaning forward, I place my hands on the table. “Do you really care?” I raise a brow at her and tilt my head.

Sarah chews her bottom lip again and looks past me, more than likely hoping Jeff will save her.

That’s not going to happen.

“Do you know who I am?” I ask when she doesn’t reply, and her eyes shoot back to mine.

“You find people. That’s what you just said.” Venom laces her tone, and I can tell she doesn’t like me.

“Have you heard of the Hunter brothers?” Her brows pinch together, and then her eyes go wide. “Yes, I think you have.”

Jeff walks back, and I stand and throw a twenty on the table. “Something came up, so I have to go. Enjoy the coffee.” I nod to him and turn to Sarah. “I’ll be seeing yourealsoon.” I wink at her and walk off.
