And now wet.

“Logan,” she moaned in a whisper.

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“I think I’ve got my scene sorted. Thank you for your help,” Emma said, and Logan groaned as he straightened.

“Cruel.”

She smiled. “And I’ll take you up on that offer in a few days.”

“Maybe we should try natural therapies or witchcraft to heal you faster,” Logan said with a moan.

Emma let out a snort.

“By the way, my brother and sister are coming for dinner tomorrow night. I want you to meet them,” Logan added.

Oh?

So much for keeping me hidden.

Emma had expected to have blacked-out windows and to be driven here during the dark of night. Not really. While it did still upset her that he’d said those things to Daniel—and still meant them—she did understand the threat to his board.

It didn’t feel nice that people thought these things, but when Logan explained the whole situation, she had to agree. Doug sounded like he would use whatever he could to take Logan’s job.

For now, Emma was focused on healing and getting over the trauma of the accident. Her writing was a good distraction, and so was the sexy man looking at her right now, like she was his next meal.

Happy to be, gorgeous.

Emma had no idea where this was going, or if it could work. All she knew was, she didn’t want to say goodbye to Logan and never see him again. Lying in his arms each night felt safe and nice.

Nice.

So damn nice.

It was a sense of peace she’d never expected to feel with another person. Yes, she desired him, but there was also a growing bond between them on a different level.

Emma felt protected and cared for.

“I thought you might like to meet some other people so you don’t get bored with me,” he said, running his hand over her hair. “Em, you look tired. Why don’t you lie down for a little while?”

She let out a sigh.

Exhaustion came on quickly each day since the crash. The doctors told her it was her body and brain dealing with the trauma. She was told she might have nightmares, but so far, she hadn’t.

Emma nodded and went to stand.

Logan reached out and scooped her up into his arms, and she squeaked.

“You don’t have to keep carrying me everywhere. I have a fractured ankle, not a broken leg.”

“Humor me. I like looking after you,” he said, marching down the hall to the bedroom. He placed her on the bed.

They both nudged back the covers, and she snuggled inside.

“God, I really want to join you,” Logan groaned, sitting down beside her.

“Jump in, but no funny business.” Emma’s eyelids were already closing. She felt his fingers running over her hair, knowing he was sitting there, watching her as she drifted into sleep.
