Logan laughed.

“Yes, really. Don’t be fooled by the name. My cousins are hard businessmen.”

“Oh, I don’t doubt it,” Jeff said. “Hey, Doug Chambers was in here asking for sales numbers yesterday. I told him I’d send them today to buy us some time. Do you want me to send them?”

Fucker.

All board members were provided with full financials, so there was no need for Doug to be asking for more data.

“I was going to update you on a few things. Let’s go into my office,” Logan suggested.

After he’d shared the situation, Jeff sat shaking his head. “What a fucking snake!”

“He is. So don’t give him a goddamn thing if he contacts you. And if he shows up here again, ring me at once.”

“Will do,” Jeff said.

“If you can send me the sales numbers in its raw form, that would be appreciated,” Logan said as his GM left the office.

“Sure thing.”

When the email arrived in his inbox, Logan pressed forward and copied it to the entire board. Then drafted his email.

Dear Doug,

I understand you visited the Dufort Liquor offices yesterday without my knowledge and requested information from our team members. I’m sure you can understand the confusion and intimidation this causes for our employees, along with undermining my role as Chief Executive Officer. This is your first position on a board, so I will write it off as a rookie mistake. If you wish to tour the offices, please make an appointment with my secretary in the future. The invitation is open to all board members, which I have copied here.

Attached is the financial data you requested from my team, which you will find was provided to you on page 22 of the board report. This is a regular feature in our reports and one I would expect, after two years, you would be familiar with. If you would like assistance understanding this or future reports, please let me know, and I can have one of our junior accounts people take you through it.

Kind regards

Logan Dufort,

Chief Executive Officer, and Founder, Dufort Liquor

He sat back in his chair and clicked send, letting out a long sigh. Doug Chambers was a rookie. And it was time for him to go.

Logan was running out of patience after speaking to all his board members over the past several days. He was confident he had at least eighty percent of them on board, with a few of the newer members nervous and spooked by Doug’s claims.

With more than two weeks until their next board meeting, Logan was rightly concerned.

So, it was time to play dirty.

The email he’d just sent would infuriate Doug, but Logan didn’t give a fuck. He’d built Dufort Liquor from the ground up and wasn’t going to sit back and let some unemployed asshole take it from him.

Logan had been distracted by Emma, but she was doing well with her recovery, and they were in a comfortable routine at home now.

Every day, she went down to the guest room—now her office—and wrote. They stopped for lunch together and then returned to their spaces.

In the evening, they ate dinner and pretended to watch TV while chatting and inevitably fucking.

Except it didn’t feel like fucking now.

It was getting comfortable. Not in the vanilla sex kind of way—more like he knew Emma’s body. He knew what she liked, and she was figuring out what he liked.

Last night, he’d made Emma fuck herself with a dildo while he jerked off, covering her breasts with his come. She’d been wearing one of his business shirts, open, and nothing else.

Fuck, even thinking about it made him hard.
